REPORTS TO:  Director of Manufacturing/Engineering

Job Type: Full-time

Shift: 8 hours, Monday to Friday

Ability to Commute: Prescott, WI 54021 (Required)

Primary Focus

This position applies knowledge of engineering design and drafting principles to design products such as grinders, lifts, controls, etc. assists in conducting product testing and creates models and prototypes. The Mechanical Designer will work with the Engineering team to complete projects as assigned by the Director of Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities – Mechanical Designer 

Design:

  • Analyze engineering sketches, designs and drawings to determine drafting requirements.
  • Draft detailed drawings of assemblies, installations and parts as required.
  • Prepare Engineering Change Notices and other engineering documentation.
  • Prepare concepts, cost estimates, design reviews, and complete drawing packages from verbal or written instructions.
  • Provide technical assistance when issues arise or when new products are released into production.
  • Analyze new and existing products to eliminate design issues in fabrication, assembly, and operation,
  • Exercise independent judgment interpreting data, design intent, design operation, and possible product improvements based on knowledge and experience.
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion.
  • Works closely with operations, manufacturing and production engineers to ensure products are designed for manufacture. Develops and tests manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.
  • Responsible for carrying out design change requests in a timely manner.

  • Ensures design files and information are kept up to date and stored in accordance with departmental procedures.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Associate's Degree in Mechanical Design or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience desired
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks 3-D and AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office – Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • Familiarity with metal fabrication processes including welding, grinding, plasma cutting, brake press and roll bending.
  • Basic knowledge and/or experience with engineering procedures and process documentation, work aids and work instructions or willingness to learn.
  • Detail orientation to assure high quality documentation.
