Position: Content Manager
Carnegie Corporation seeks to hire a Content Manager who will report to the Senior Content Editor and Writer in the Communications Department and will be responsible for facilitating the philanthropic foundation’s content production. This role will oversee workflows and quality control, edit and draft copy in adherence with style guides, and manage freelance contributors to deliver foundation content for digital, social, multimedia, and print.
Responsibilities:
- Workflow Manager: Manage content pipeline using project management tools and production calendars to track progress, schedule reviews, secure approvals, and ensure on-time delivery of Carnegie digital and print content, reports, campaigns, and other assets.
- Quality Control: Copy edit content and incorporate edits from colleagues with acute attention to accuracy, clarity, and consistency, as well as best practices for SEO, social engagement, and user experience. Own and update the foundation’s style guide.
- Assigning Editor: Work with the Senior Content Editor and Writer to identify, develop, and manage freelance writers and editors to ensure on-time deliverables. Help inform engagement strategies.
- Supporting Writer: Conceive and draft compelling written materials as assigned.
- Supporting Researcher: Research compelling narratives, stories, and supporting data as assigned.
- Vendor Coordinator: Manage day-to-day vendor contact, including communication with copy editors, transcription services, and book publishers. Assist with contracting process.
- Collaborator: Collaborate with communications colleagues on strategy and planning for a range of internal and external projects and goals.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of content production experience on a news or content team at a highly visible organization.
- Exceptional editorial and copy-editing skills.
- Proficiency in content management systems and digital publishing tools (Canva, Mailchimp, etc.).
- Skilled in managing content workflow and production schedules using project management tools (Asana, Wrike, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to write clean, engaging, and jargon-free writing on deadline.
- Experience with implementing SEO, social, and UX best practices.
- Understanding of web and social analytics.
- Experience managing and implementing a style guide.
- Outstanding communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Record of effective collaboration; ability to mentor colleagues and staff about editorial best practices.
- Comfortable managing competing priorities in a quickly moving environment.
- Genuine understanding and demonstrated interest in the foundation’s program areas.
- Innate capacity to be proactive, entrepreneurial, and solutions oriented.
- A commitment to ethical standards, transparency, and accountability.
- Previous experience at a media outlet, communications firm, marketing agency, or philanthropic organization is strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, communications, or disciplines related to our program areas.

New hires are typically brought into the organization between the minimum to midpoint of the salary hiring range posted depending on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
