This is an on-campus, 215 day, exempt, Adjunct Faculty appointment covered by the Part-Time Faculty Union with an hourly rate of $29.41 per hour.

The Digital Scholarship and Outreach Librarian works as part of a team responsible for managing the physical and electronic collections of the Learning Commons. This role will assist the Learning Technologies & Collections Librarian to promote and support scholarship via our institutional repository, SPARK, and building faculty and staff online research profiles in Pure. The librarian will participate in outreach efforts by being primarily responsible for the Learning Commons’ web presence, contributing to social media posts, creating materials for advertising campaigns, and participating in college-wide outreach events.
The Digital Scholarship and Outreach Librarian is an adjunct faculty appointment on a schedule established by the Learning Technologies & Collections Librarian. Staffing changes occasionally necessitate an altered work schedule. Minimal supervision is provided; the Digital Scholarship and Outreach Librarian must be able to work independently, accurately prioritize tasks, efficiently serve customers, and make appropriate decisions.

Essential Job Functions:
- Oversee and maintain Parkland’s institutional repository and researcher profile software.
- Engage with faculty, staff, and students to understand their research and instruction needs, build collaborations, plan and lead training opportunities, and promote library services.
- Primarily responsible for the Learning Commons main web presence and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of Parkland-owned Learning Commons sites.
- Support website design adherence to relevant accessibility laws as well as best practices for usability.
- Contribute to the Learning Commons social media presence by creating materials to advertise events and resources.
- Provide support for collection development and management projects.
- Assist at the Circulation and Reference desks as assigned.
- Serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments and on Learning Commons teams.
- Engage in events and activities for Learning Commons and Parkland College.
- Participate in local, state, and national library and information science activities to represent the college and stay current in the field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree in library science from an American Library Association accredited institution.
- Must pass a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
- Strong public service orientation.
- Proficiency with web accessibility and usability standards.
- Creativity and commitment to implementing innovative library programs, methods, and technologies.
- Excellent organization, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize simultaneous projects.
- Proficiency in library and office-based software, databases, and systems.
- In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
