Job Description Summary
The Volunteerism Summer Art Program Student Worker position offers selected applicants engagement in an immersive service-oriented experience providing leadership, mentorship, teaching, and collaborative opportunities. This opportunity is designed to allow selected applicants, with a concern for their surrounding community, to gain professional experience utilizing their creative skill sets to serve community partners (for example: Alta Vista Elementary Eagle Academy, Boys & Girls Club of Manatee County (BGCMC), and Girls Inc.) within the context of a long-term project.
The Eagle Academy is an annual summer program boasting a two-generational approach to educate and provide resources to both students and parents enrolled in the program. Student workers will support the program through the development and implementation of lessons and activities centered in art and literacy. Student workers will work with kindergarten through 5th graders.

Tentatively May 27th - July 11th.
20 hours per week (Required presence TBD, plus Weekly Team Meetings).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend all meetings, trainings, and service opportunities with no more than 3 absences.
- Collaborate and communicate with other Volunteerism Summer Art Program Team members.
- Assist with coordination, set up and breakdown of classroom projects.
- Work as a student instructor to help develop and implement lessons on art and literacy.
- Assist with clerical and promotional activities (i.e. designing visual aids, etc.) related to position.
- Assist with photographing/documenting classroom activities for a program documentation google folder.
- Coordinate with team members to establish and assist with project needs in assigned classrooms.
- Provide consistent service to the non-profit partner (Alta Vista Elementary and other partners) and be fully engaged in all classroom activities.
- Be punctual and serve Alta Vista Elementary and other partners according to an agreed-upon schedule.
- Communicate regularly with supervisors and partners.
- Track hours and submit via Workday bi-weekly.
- Complete self-evaluation(s) and partner evaluation to assess program success.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be enrolled as a student of Ringling College of Art and Design.
- Must possess a commitment to community service.
- Must be highly organized.
- Must be interested and comfortable with working with children, and be exceptionally patient.
- Must be dependable and able to work as scheduled.
- Must be punctual and behave professionally.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in various settings.
- Must complete and pass Level 1 clearance and screening as required by Sarasota County Schools. Other screenings may be required depending on community partner requirements.
- Must adhere to and follow the Ringling College Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook, at all times while participating in Summer Program events, programs, and service.
- Must adhere to and follow the Volunteerism Summer Art Program Team Training Manual, the Sarasota County Schools Procedures for School Volunteers, and Alta Vista Elementary volunteer expectations, as outlined during Volunteerism Summer Art Program Training, and the procedures, rules, and guidelines of all partners.
- Experience working with children is preferred.
BENEFITS AND SUPPORT:
- $14 per hour pay.
- Taxable Living Stipend.
- One week orientation training (5/27 - 5/31).
- Support from Alta Vista, Girls Inc., and BGC teachers & facilitators in classroom management and communicating with students.
- Support from supervisor and Volunteerism Summer Art Program team members.
- Experience gains in community engagement, leadership, mentorship, interpersonal communication, education, and more.
