The Library Technician I performs paraprofessional library technical and clerical work including routine cataloging and circulating materials. Incumbent will primarily work checking out materials to patrons at the Feldheym Central Library and at three branch libraries. They can also work in Reference or Children's at Feldheym.
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will provide customer service to patrons at the circulation desk checking in and out materials, issuing new and replacement library cards, explaining library policies and procedures to patrons and answering questions regarding library services at library branches located throughout the city. Library experience desirable.
PT Library Technician I(s) can work up to 19 hours a week, depending on their availability.
The listed hours of San Bernardino Public Libraries are:
Monday & Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Closed Friday and Sunday.

- Provides quality customer service to patrons at the Circulation Desk; handles the checking in and checking out of materials, issuing new and replacement library cards, maintaining patron addresses and answering questions.
- Explains and interprets library policies and procedures to patrons; processes overdue library materials and phone renewals; receives monies and issues receipts for payment of late, damaged, and lost books and materials; records statistical data regarding circulation; cleans and re-stocks circulation desk supplies.
- Answers standard questions regarding library services; provides information to library users, including use of catalogs, operational policies, and referral to appropriate library sections; maintains and updates bulletin boards.
- Participates in receiving, processing, inputting, cataloging, and tracking of books, periodicals, and media materials; receives and processes inter-library loans, confirms shipments received, stamps and assigns barcodes, and creates databases and labels.
- Transfers books from Reference to Circulation status; updates information, manages, and reroutes books as needed.
- Mends, maintains, and repairs library materials; discards old, outdated and unrepairable materials and deletes records from catalog database; cleans and resurfaces DVD's.
- Submits inter-library loan requests to other libraries and retrieves or sends books; monitors and follows up on overdue materials; notifies reciprocal libraries of delinquencies and to renew checkouts.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of records, reports, lists and files; provides information regarding facility usage and fees.
- Performs a variety of clerical and administrative duties in support of library operations; answers and routes telephone calls; sorts and distributes mail and periodicals; performs library opening and closing procedures.
