Description
Distribution Drivers ( 2 Positions Available)
CITY distributes throughout the greater Rochester area, as far out as Brockport, Geneseo, Canandaigua, and points in between.
The job is simple:
Pick up paperwork ('route sheets') and the assigned number of magazines (in bundles of 50).
Deliver the number of magazines assigned to each stop ('drop').
Count and record the number of remaining previous issues ('returns').
Promptly return route sheets - accurate and complete.
Recycle the returns or bring them back for recycling.
The pay is $3 per stop. A reliable vehicle is required.
A route may have 30 to 60+ stops, cover 25 to 100+ miles, and take 6 to 8 hours to complete. Some routes are condensed while others may cover a greater distance with fewer stops. For this reason, routes may be rotated among drivers through the year, if viable.
Routes must be completed on delivery day, which is typically* Friday after the last Thursday of the month.
There may be additional opportunities throughout the year to earn bonuses for additional deliveries.
*There are exceptions to this schedule depending on when the 1st of the month falls or if issues are strategically held to be distributed around an event.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does the company provide a vehicle or compensate for mileage?
Drivers must provide their own vehicle, one that is reliable through all weather. We do not pay fuel compensation, but we are keeping an eye on the ever-changing cost of gas as we go.
Where and when do we load our vehicles?
The starting point is the WXXI building at 280 State St. We receive the magazines on the last Thursday of the month, so you can load up anywhere from Thursday afternoon before 5 p.m. through Friday morning by or around 9 a.m.
Can the work be done on weekends?
No; the work must be completed by Friday so we are on the stands for the weekend.
Can the work be done with a partner?
Yes, some find that easier and more fun. The rate is still $3/stop.
Just how much weight are we talking?
A bundle can weigh 9-12 pounds, and a route can have 20-75+ bundles. Having a hand truck can be useful if there is a large drop on the route.
What is it like to deliver CITY?
The job can be fun, dirty, social, and solitary all at once. It is also very rewarding to bring fresh copy of quality local journalism to the community each month. You also learn a lot about Rochester.
Position Requirements
Drive your own vehicle, must have a Driver's License and Insurance
Ability to Lift up to 25 lbs.
Flexible Availability
The job is physical and involves lifting, walking, stair climbing, etc. - as well as the occasional garbage removal (and disposal), and tidying up. The means to drive through all weather is required. Knowing your way around is an asset - but the job will teach you if you don't.
The job also involves interacting with people and being a friendly face for CITY.
This position is currently accepting applications.
