Responsibilities This comms-focused VP/SVP, Media Relations will focus on creating, driving and advancing key communications projects that cross over into the world of both corporate and consumer storytelling across owned and earned channels. The role is built for the future of earned media and the quickly changing media landscape, with an emphasis on being a driver and client lead across key communications clients. The ideal candidate has experience working to concept and deliver across consumer-driven comms projects with earned coverage and conversation as the output. Collaborating with senior-level executives to shape and share their owned and earned strategies is also a must. This role will serve as a strategic counselor to clients and as a team leader across our communications business. This person will be responsible for developing strong corporate and consumer communications strategies that proactively and reactively build and protect brand reputation and achieve key business objectives. In addition to team management and mentorship experience, we are also looking for someone who can be a part of new business and management decisions. Key responsibilities include: Act as a thought-partner for senior-level clients and our agency by understanding their business and driving results while showcasing client leadership and relationship building skills
Showcase a keen understanding for the brand-level positioning for our clients and lead corporate and consumer communications strategies and activations to meet those goals
Raise the visibility of brands and key executives via earned and owned social strategies - tap into the topics their fans and audiences love
Oversee Day One Agency external communications team and leadership speaking engagements in partnership with CEO and EVP. Manage outside PR agency
Develop and deliver informed strategic recommendations based on understanding of best practices across each client’s category and competitive set
Interface directly with key clients and executives at a macro level when building plans and strategies and at a micro level in implementing those approaches
Maintain current knowledge of trends, the competitive landscape, and confidently provide strategic point-of-views to clients
Proactively anticipate client needs and keep multiple activities moving simultaneously
Counsel junior members of the team to work effectively with the media, and develop their skill sets in the agency setting
Participate in new business pitch development and/or presentations
Drive office culture and be a mentor to staff and the media relations team
Create strategic plans, decks and presentations on behalf of agency and its clients, including generating ongoing new ideas and value beyond the scope of current client assignments
Qualifications 12+ years of experience in media relations or related field
Understanding of the intersection between corporate and consumer storytelling
Experience working with creative teams to build effective strategies and campaigns
Creative storytelling skills coupled with a deep understanding of how to package a modern earned story, understanding the importance of visual elements
Experience developing media strategies and strong media relationships
Experience developing and executing programs that drive tangible results
Experience managing multiple priorities and pivoting quickly
Experience leading and mentoring a diverse team
Experience supporting and delivering success across a wide range of assignments and client categories — including travel, financial services, lifestyle, consumer tech, fashion and beverage
Entrepreneurial spirit and relentless curiosity
Excellent judgment and people interaction skills
Excellent communication and writing skills
Prior PR agency experience
Prior experience leading integrated corporate and consumer communications strategies, brand partnerships, and large-scale event activations
Bachelor's Degree

The Company is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base compensation range for this role is $180,000 - $220,000 and this position is eligible for benefits that include medical insurance (health, dental, and vision), retirement plan, paid time off, paid parental leave, new business and employee referral bonuses, etc. Please note that the compensation information provided is a good faith estimate for New York City based hires only and is provided pursuant to the New York City Pay Transparency Law. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as candidates' relevant work experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
