Florida Studio Theatre is seeking applicants for its 2025-2026 Professional Training Program.
This full-time, intensive training program is an immersive and comprehensive way to bridge the gap between academic theatre and the professional world.
Through this program, all Interns and Apprentices will gain a well-rounded theatre experience with opportunities in Acting, Production, Theatre Administration, and more. In addition to their primary duties, Interns and Apprentices support other departments by assisting with tasks such as running crew, working in the Box Office, working front of house, and assisting in the scene shop.
Compensation Package Includes:
- $230 Weekly Stipend
- Free, furnished housing including utilities, cable and internet. (Private bedroom, shared common spaces)
- 25% discount at FST’s onsite restaurant
- Two free tickets to each FST production
- Free sessions of FST School’s adult classes in Acting, Improv, Playwrighting, etc.
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be able to relocate to Sarasota for the length of the program. Start dates and program duration vary based on position, but most will begin in either late May or late August of 2025, and last 9-12 months.
OPEN POSITIONS
ADMINISTRATION
AUDIENCE SERVICES Gain well-rounded front-of-house experience in all 5 of FST's theatres. Develop advanced Tessitura skills through regular shifts in the FST box office, house management, usher management and phone campaigns. In addition, support donor relations and fundraising events throughout the season.
CASTING & HIRING Work in a fast-paced and varied Artistic Department, assisting with the casting of over two dozen projects per year. Duties include communicating with agents and scheduling & running auditions, as well as assisting with recruitment for full & part-time staff positions. In addition, handle special projects and provide general administrative support to the Artistic Department.
COMPANY MANAGEMENT Work with FST's Company Manager to build and maintain relationships between the theatre and guest artists. Communicate with performers and provide support in all aspects of housing, transportation and hospitality. Develop an understanding of union regulations for guest artists and function as an ambassador for FST. Applicant MUST have own car.
EDUCATION & CHILDREN’S THEATRE Work with FST School by assisting teaching artists in acting, movement and improv classes. Work with the education administrator to assist students & parents in registering for classes and serve as administrative support for teaching artists. Additionally, support FST’s award winning Write-A-Play program that inspires students to write their own original plays. Assist with tour, workshop, and field trip scheduling. Required to pass a background check.
GENERAL MANAGEMENT Work closely with FST's General Manager and learn the many aspects of how a regional theatre functions, while receiving well-rounded arts administration experience. Learn Tessitura, familiarize yourself with all union contracts, work on special events, and provide administrative support to management staff.
MARKETING Work as a key member of FST’s fast-paced marketing team. Stretch your own creativity by helping to develop promotional content – videos, photography, blog posts, and show graphics. Support the digital team by contributing ideas for social media and developing e-blasts. Get a taste of public relations by drafting press releases, archiving coverage, and copyediting. Gain an understanding of direct mail, working in FST’s in-house mailroom.
ARTISTIC
ACTING Perform as part of FST's Children's Theatre Series and award-winning arts-in-education program, WRITE A PLAY. Audition to Understudy our Mainstage, Cabaret & Stage III productions, working alongside and learning from our union performers. In addition, develop well-rounded theatre experience by supporting our literary, production and front-of-house teams. VIDEO AUDITION REQUIRED. Applicants are required to pass a background check.
EDUCATION - SUMMER ONLY Join our staff of professional teaching artists for our FST School Summer Camp. Work with children ages 5 through 17, assisting with acting, movement, improv and voice workshops, along with providing general camp support. Applicants are required to pass a background check.
LITERARY Gain hands-on industry experience in Literary Office operations with a focus on contemporary plays and New Play Development. Read and evaluate new plays, correspond with agents & playwrights, and connect with community leaders for audience engagement. Writing opportunities with marketing and development departments are available. In addition, develop well-rounded theatre experience by supporting our production and front-of-house teams. WRITING SAMPLE REQUIRED.
PIANIST Opportunities to participate in many programs, from Cabaret development to accompanying improv performances. Will play for the Acting Apprentice Company as well as Musical classes. Have the opportunity to compose original music for possible use in Children's Theatre productions or FST's Youth Education program. VIDEO AUDITION REQUIRED.
PRODUCTION
CARPENTRY Work as a key member of FST's scenic department, learning about the many aspects of scenic construction and implementation. FST's Scene shop, responsible for all five of FST's spaces, and up to 22 productions a year, will provide opportunities to work alongside professional designers, scenic artists and carpenters.
COSTUMES Work as a key member of the FST Costume Shop, where costumes are created for up to 22 productions a year. Assist with daily maintenance, shopping, tracking of inventory & purchases, and wardrobe running. Design opportunities available. WORK SAMPLE REQUIRED.
LIGHTING Work on the preparation, installation and focus for each production in FST's five theatre spaces. Learn and develop technical skills needed to maintain lighting inventory while working with professional lighting designers. Design opportunities available. WORK SAMPLE REQUIRED.
PRODUCTION Get well rounded production experience by being involved in all areas of production here at FST. Assist on lighting and sound calls, in the scene and costume shops, with stage management of small productions and events and serve on run crew for a minimum of 2 productions. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to increase their skill level in multiple areas of theatre production.
PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT Work closely with the Director of Production on all aspects of running a 5 theatre complex. Provide support for all technical departments, including scheduling, creating and tracking of purchase orders and recording/distributing notes from production meetings. Serve as backstage swing for various productions. In addition, work in Stage Management for small productions and events.
PROPS/PAINTING Work as a key member of the FST Scene Shop, assisting with day to day functions of the shop as well as creation and acquisition of hand props, furniture and set dressings. Opportunities to research, source, build/fabricate props as well as deepen painting skills for both scenic and properties divisions. WORK SAMPLE REQUIRED.
SOUND Work closely with FST's Resident Sound Designer to deepen the skills required for a professional audio career. Learn and operate the Yamaha digital sound console, program and operate the Q-Lab computerized sound playback system, and source and create sound cues for production. Design opportunities available. STAGE MANAGEMENT Be a part of the stage management team that executes 22 productions a year. Work alongside AEA Stage Managers on Mainstage or Stage III productions, as well as have the opportunity to take the lead on non-union productions and events. Learn union rules, create & manage schedules, take blocking notes in rehearsals, track costumes & props, organize crew responsibilities and execute performances.
