The Lakeville Area Arts Center (LAAC) is seeking a passionate and experienced Theatre Teaching Artist to lead a variety of theatre classes and camps for young people. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in theatre education and a proven ability to create engaging and inclusive learning environments.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, plan, and prepare for theatre classes and camps.
  • Lead young people through creative performing arts experiences.
  • Foster confidence, experimentation, and expression in every class.
  • Create safe and inclusive spaces for young people and their families.
  • Collaborate with the LAAC team to develop and implement new programs.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for theatre education and working with young people.
  • Experience teaching theatre to children and adolescents.
  • Proven track record of creating engaging and inclusive learning environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Proposed pay rate in 2025 is $33.03 per hour.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Provide a fun and educational experience to all students.
  • Empower and inspire young people through the magic of theatre.
  • Create and manage a safe and welcoming environment for all students.
  • Plan/Prepare for each class meeting.
  • Select and facilitate age-appropriate warm-ups and activities.
  • Provide excellent classroom management.
  • Guide, prepare, and support students throughout the class and final sharing.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS:

  • Is under the immediate general and technical supervision of the Arts Center Manager.
  • Responds to requests or inquiries from the Reservation Specialist.
  • Communicates and works effectively with other City personnel, class participants and families.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Experience teaching theatre to young people.
  • Experience developing lesson plans and class structure.
  • Skillful in guiding students through class to final sharing.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to develop age appropriate activities that lead to growth for all skill levels.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Professional training and/or experience in theater education.
  • Experience and interest in working with students from diverse populations with a wide range of abilities.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA or BFA in Theatre or similar
