Professional, supervisory, and administrative work for the New Orleans Public Library. Employees in this class either manage a special collection, a technical services operation, or a major library system function. Work includes performing difficult or original cataloging or ordering of rare books, orchestral music titles, and specialized library materials, participating in materials selections, performing technical services, implementing staff training programs, and program development and evaluation.
Duties include staff scheduling, attention to physical branch facility, selecting, training, and evaluating branch staff. Tasks include, but are not limited to circulation, interlibrary loan, technological reference, and all related library operations. Work also includes developing and implementing programs, services and special events to promote use of library services; and related work as required.
- A Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited graduate library school.*
- Four (4) years of full-time professional library experience, which must have been gained after receipt of a Master's Degree in Library Science. One (1) year of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.
*Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
This position requires a one year probationary period. A rating of training and experience, weighted 100%. All related previous library experience will be considered for qualification purposes; however, credit on the rating of training and experience will only be given for experience gained within the last ten (10) years.
