Job Summary: The Court Reporter is responsible for capturing a verbatim record of live court proceedings and providing real-time updates to the judge. This position tracks and maintains exhibits and prepares accurate transcriptions of required proceedings for attorneys and/or court of appeals. The Court Reporter attends sessions of court, records examinations, testimonies, judicial opinions, judge's charges to the jury, and judgments or sentences of the court.

Responsibilities:

  1. Transcribes any records ordered by the judge, attorneys, or parties to the cases; proofreads rough drafts; researches and corrects transcripts.
  2. Marks and maintains exhibits as necessary; copies exhibits that have been admitted into evidence as part of record production; maintains care and custody of exhibits and files with the Clerk's office.
  3. Takes dictation by judge and court investigator's reports.
  4. Makes phone calls and transports files on behalf of the judge.
  5. Files reporter records and correspondence with the Court of Appeals.
  6. Backs up all files at the end of the day and files all admitted exhibits.
  7. Discloses record orders to all parties and attorneys concerned.
  8. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
  9. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or GED, completion of some college-level coursework, and a minimum of five years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
  2. Certification as a Shorthand Reporter by the Supreme Court of Texas required.
  3. Certification as a Merit Reporter and Real-time Reporter preferred.
