Objectives of This Role:
A Senior Medical Writer is responsible for the planning, preparation, development and/or review of scientific/medical content in a variety of formats (slides, newsletters, storyboards, etc); accurate interpretation of data; clear communication with clients, speakers, and HCPs; efficient planning and organization; establishing effective working interactions with account services, editorial, creative, and project management teams; and efficiently producing high-quality deliverables.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrates behavior expected of a professional member of the organization, including but not limited to:
- Participate in internal meetings and external meetings with clients and medical experts, providing pre- and post-meeting materials as needed
- Create accurate scientific/medical writing on a variety of medical communication and promotional projects
- Serve as a therapeutic category expert while working in cross-functional teams
- Translate scientific concepts into promotional content in collaboration with copy writers, creative directors, and medical directors
- Research (e.g., literature or competitor searches)
- Stay up-to-date on scientific developments and their medical implications
- Understand the clinical utility of therapeutic choices within disease states
- Ensure quality standards of promotional medical writing
- Mentor and review work of junior team members as appropriate
- Support new business initiatives as needed
- Represent the agency with the highest standards in all endeavors
Job Requirements:
Education:
- PhD, PharmD, MD, or advanced nursing degree
Experience:
- A minimum of 1.5 years professional medical writing experience, preferably at a scientific communications agency
- Prior experience with developing slide decks, analyzing clinical trial data, summarizing scientific literature about a specific disease state or other topic, etc.
- Presentation of own research at conferences, with publication of scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals a plus
- Excellent writing and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple timelines
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and PubMed/Google Scholar databases
