This position may be filled remotely or in any of our office locations.

The Legal Writing Coach will be responsible for enhancing the legal writing skills of attorneys within the firm. This role involves developing and implementing comprehensive writing curriculums, providing strategic direction for writing objectives, and working collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure the highest standard of legal writing across all Strategic Business Units (SBUs) and Practice Specialty Centers (PSCs). The ideal candidate will possess a strong legal background, exemplary writing skills, and a passion for teaching and mentoring. Essential job functions include:

Strategic Direction and Curriculum Development:

  • Provide overall strategic direction for writing objectives and curriculums across all SBUs and PSCs.
  • Collaborate with the curriculum design strategist to build comprehensive training curriculums tailored to the needs of different practice areas.
  • Continuously evaluate and update writing curriculums to reflect current legal standards and practices; including developing metrics to evaluate effectiveness of writing programs.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with PSC Leaders to align writing training with the firm's strategic goals and practice-specific requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Legal Recruiting team to develop and implement writing training programs for summer associates, ensuring a seamless integration into the firm’s culture and expectations.

Training and Coaching:

  • Develop and present engaging and effective writing training sessions for attorneys at all levels, including workshops, seminars, and one-on-one coaching. This may also include writing programs for business professionals.
  • Conduct individual writing coaching sessions with associates, providing personalized feedback and guidance to enhance their legal writing capabilities.
  • Monitor and assess the progress of attorneys and associates, offering constructive feedback and additional resources as needed.

Thought Leadership and Best Practices:

  • Stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in legal writing and education, incorporating relevant insights into training materials and sessions.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in legal writing throughout the firm.

Position Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience (preferred) in legal practice or legal writing.
  • Proven experience in teaching, coaching, or mentoring legal professionals.
  • Exceptional presentation skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Passion for developing others and fostering a culture of learning and growth.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The exact compensation will vary based on skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:

  • State of California: $125,000 - $239,000
  • State of Colorado: $115,000 - $205,000
  • State of Illinois: $113,000 - $219,000
  • Jersey City, NJ: $136,000 - $246,000
  • State of Maryland: $121,000 - $184,000
  • State of Massachusetts: $125,000 - $239,000
  • State of Minnesota: $125,000 - $207,000
  • State of New York: $116,000 - $251,000
  • State of Washington: $121,000 - $230,000
  • Washington, D.C.: $161,000 - $237,000

The above salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, however bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed, and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
