Position Summary

The Associate Director of Marketing Communications for the School of Law helps to develop and execute communications and marketing tactics to showcase the accomplishments, teaching, scholarship, service, innovation, and leadership of the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Elon University's School of Law with locations in Greensboro and Charlotte, North Carolina. This position advances the overall academic profile and reputation of Elon University through adherence to brand identify and messaging while helping the School of Law achieve strategic priorities. The Associate Director of Marketing Communications for the School of Law reports to the Assistant Vice President for Strategic Communications and Media Relations with a dotted line report to the Dean of the School of Law. This position maintains an office inside School of Law facilities in Greensboro, N.C., and is a member of the School of Law dean's leadership team. This position uses strategic approaches to communications and audience engagement to advance the admissions, philanthropic, and career placement priorities of the School of Law.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field with minimum 5 years of experience with the following relevant work experience; required experience writing in Associated Press style for communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field; experience with creating multimedia content and managing institutional social media accounts.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field; preferred experience with SEO website optimization and preferred experience in media relations.

Required Other Training, Certifications, or Licensing

Job Duties

Writing and Editing: Interview story subjects related to the School of Law, write and publish stories for Elon University digital channels and print publications, and manage student workers with writing and multimedia assignments. Website and Social Media Management: Regularly review and update website content for departments, programs, centers, and initiatives managed by the School of Law; provide guidance to School of Law partners on best practices and appropriate use of website management and social media accounts with a focus on SEO and accessibility best practices. Design: Work with University Communications to design templates for print materials, emails, and digital signage used by campus partners in the School of Law for communication and marketing needs. Develop and review advertising and other collateral as requested by School of Law programs and offices to ensure alignment with brand and brand standards. Multimedia Production: Create photos for print materials and online stories, and collect photo and video content for social media, to help publicize feature stories and social content that showcases achievements with the School of Law community. Marketing and Media Relations: Strategize with the Dean of the School of Law and the Office of Admissions for the School of Law, as well as communications colleagues who oversee graduate school admissions marketing on Elon's main campus, on the development of admissions and marketing messaging; manage sponsorships and conference/symposium program marketing to showcase faculty achievements to academic audiences; assist with the promotion of programs and events sponsored by departments within the School of Law; assist University Communications colleagues with the identification and development of faculty and staff experts capable of responding to news media requests for expert commentary; work with the Assistant Vice President for Strategic Communications and Media Relations to proactively place School of Law faculty experts into news media coverage. School of Law Leadership Support: Assist the Dean, Vice Dean, and Associate/Assistant Deans of the School of Law with communication needs relevant to stakeholders, including high-level presentations for university leadership (Board of Trustees, Board of Advisors, etc.)
