PURPOSE OF JOB:

To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a secondary learning environment that guides and encourages scholars to develop and fulfill their artistic potential as it relates to technical theater and scenic design.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrates knowledge, training, and skill in organizing, maintaining, and managing facilities for the performing arts.
  2. Demonstrates experience and knowledge in stage management, lighting, scenery, sound, and all other technical aspects of live theater.
  3. Develop and implement performing arts products, which address issues related to the safety of personnel and care of equipment.
  4. Manage house and stage crews for school and community events.
  5. Provide technical assistance for school and community events.
  6. Instruct students in all aspects of technical theater including lighting design, set design/construction, sound design, and costume design/construction.
  7. Contract out for necessary repairs and maintenance, supervise contractors.
  8. Perform repairs and maintenance as necessary.
  9. Ensure all regular inspections (rigging, fire, etc.) are performed to keep the facility up to code.
  10. Serve as lead technical director for all Paseo Academy productions/performances.
  11. Teach courses in beginning and advanced technical theatre, scene design, and sponsor the extra-curricular stage crew club.
  12. Fulfill all responsibilities of paperwork such as inventory, equipment repair, report cards, attendance, and purchase orders.
  13. Supervise all technical aspects of concerts, recitals, and productions; provide strong carpentry skills and the ability to instruct students in all aspects of set construction.
  14. Maintain prompt and professional communication with parents and colleagues.
  15. Facilitate the audition process scheduled throughout the year.
  16. Prepare course objectives and outlines for the course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the state and school.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Hold or be eligible for a Missouri substitute teacher certificate.
  2. Ability and willingness to continually develop, evaluate, and refine curriculum in collaboration with colleagues.
  3. Ability to work with a diverse group of students.
  4. Ability to develop a strong working relationship with the business/arts community.
  5. Excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
  6. Available to work and rehearse after school and some weekends.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Prior teaching experience.
  2. Prior performance/professional experience.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year: This position ends on the last day of the 205-day school year.
