Overview
Technical Writer/Editor - Journeyman
Location: USCG HQ, Washington, DC
Clearance: Active Secret
Support USCG CG-7 in the development and management of a standardized, defendable and repeatable process to generate and maintain USCG capability (operational) requirements in support of follow-on acquisition activities to improve the performance of all USCG missions.
Responsibilities
- Manage CG-771 document production to ensure all documents (from draft to final reporting) are compliant with USCG and DHS Joint Requirements Council (JRC) and guidance.
- Gather, analyze, and compose complex technical information.
- Conduct research and ensure the use of proper technical terminology.
- Translate technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.
- Organize material and write descriptive copy according to established standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
- Develop communications materials for publications.
- Develop, write, and edit functional descriptions, system specifications, special reports, or any other customer deliverables and documents.
- Provide technical writing support and decipher directions provided on scripted storyboards, specifications, etc.
- Review documents for technical accuracy in accordance with applicable regulations.
Qualifications
Required:
- MA/MS with 3 years of experience OR
- BA/BS with 5-10 years of experience.
- Demonstrated use of the Gerald J. Alred et al, Handbook of Technical Writing.
Preferred:
- USCG Plan support experience.
- Knowledge of DHS Joint Requirements Integration and Management (JRIMS) process.
