Description
Windward School, a grade 7-12 college-preparatory, independent day school in vibrant West Los Angeles, is seeking a dynamic, creative, part-time (40% FTE) Film and Video Teacher who will work in collaboration with the film department’s teachers, primarily focusing on grades 7-9.
The Windward Media Arts Program explores narrative storytelling with an emphasis on developing a student’s personal vision and voice, expressed through film, sound, and animation. As the means of production and viewing evolve, shaping content and aesthetics, our program evolves with them, embracing new platforms and technologies and imagining storytelling in an expansive sense. Students acquire a global perspective on filmmaking while developing characteristics of leadership, empathy, and independence.
Responsibilities
- Teach two sections of Middle and Upper School Film & Video and Media Arts classes
- Work closely with the Visual and Media Arts Department Chair, Media Arts teachers, and the Director of the Media Arts and Film Lab to develop Middle and Upper School Film & Video and Media Arts curricula
- In collaboration with the Media Arts faculty, aid and support the continuous development of the Media Arts Program through research, site visits, and partnering with professionals in the field
- Implement best practices in art education pedagogy based on student-centered learning and responsive teaching methods
- Create a welcoming environment in the Media Arts and Film Lab that reflects the school’s mission as a college preparatory school: to challenge each student to achieve academic excellence within a nurturing atmosphere
- In partnership with the Media Arts faculty and the Technology Department, continuously update and maintain the Media Arts and Film Lab resources

Requirements
- Bachelor or advanced degree in the film/video/cinema arts, an interactive media-related field, or a field relevant to the position's duties with significant experience working with film and video production
- Minimum four years' experience in production and post-production audio and video technologies with an emphasis on Adobe Premiere Pro and minimum two years' teaching experience, including curriculum design and media arts integration in the classroom, preferably at the 7th-9th grade levels
- Familiarity with narrative techniques in multimedia storytelling and executing projects from concept to polished production
- Demonstrated ability to create, advocate for, and execute a long-term vision for programmatic growth
- Very strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to communicate technical information to non-technical students and faculty
- Experience working with young people and in a team-oriented environment
- A demonstrated commitment to students, faculty, and the educational process
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced work environment where roles and responsibilities are flexible
