Moundridge Community
Moundridge is a small rural community of nearly 2,000 in population located in Central Kansas on Interstate 35 between Salina and Wichita. With strong businesses and a supportive Moundridge City Council, the town continues to grow. Unified School District 423 https://www.usd423.org/ is one of the strongest in Kansas for academics, programming, and activities while the facility and grounds had a complete renovation. The Moundridge Recreation Commission along with the City of Moundridge https://www.moundridge.com built a new pool and updated the tennis area with six new pickleball courts.
Moundridge Library
The Moundridge Public Library https://moundridge.scklslibrary.info/ recently moved into a completely renovated building which allows for expanded services and more community involvement. The library catalog and circulation system are automated using Biblionix. The library has more than 2,000 registered users and offers public access computers, wireless Internet access, and a collection of more than 17,000 physical items, programs and activities for persons of all ages, a community room, and an outdoor area.
Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time position with benefits; KPERS Retirement program, health insurance, dental insurance, vacation, and sick/personal leave. Optional benefits are available. $36,000.00 starting salary with pay levels commensurate with experience.
Mission of the Library
The purpose of the Moundridge Public Library is to serve the informational, educational, cultural and recreational needs of all members of the Moundridge community by providing access to quality staff, materials, programs, services and facilities.
Definition
Under the administration of the Library Board of Trustees, this salaried, exempt position is responsible for day-to-day library operations. The director provides and promotes public library services for community members of all ages and ensures the library is a positive and engaging environment. The director is responsible for supervision of four part-time employees.
Responsibilities and Duties (not an inclusive list)
- Provides friendly, courteous and accurate service to all users
- Provides a leadership role in the library
- Responds to patron requests, suggestions and complaints
- Evaluates operations and activities of the library, plans for future needs, develops library collections and services and adopts and implements new services
- Advocates for the library by serving as the official representative of the library in the community and throughout the library field and by speaking before community, civic and other groups about the library’s services
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with library patrons, other governmental agencies, civic and community groups and the general public
- Develops staff job descriptions, recommends and administers personnel policies involving hiring, evaluating, promoting and terminating staff
- Directly supervises all library employees
- Defines expectations for staff performance, oversees and implements the staff evaluation process
- Promotes staff morale through communication, staff meetings, in-service programs and staff trainings
- Supervises and encourages staff members' continuing education
- Maintains neatness of public areas including desks, counters, shelves, tables and personal space visible to public
- Attends library board meetings and committee meetings and serves as a resource for the library board
- Working with Treasurer and Board, develops and submits an annual budget and monthly financial reports to the library board
- Formulates and recommends policies to the library board and implements board-adopted policies and library procedures
- Monitors and approves appropriations and expenditures
- Prepares proposal documents, files required documents, publishes required notices
- Oversees grant proposals and submissions
- Creates, organizes and implements solicitation of donations and/or gifts to the library, reviews and acknowledges receipt of donations and/or gifts
- Oversees the automation and technology needs and maintenance of the library, implements new technology as appropriate
- Attends library and professional meetings and participates in regional and statewide professional activities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of library philosophies, practices, procedures and technologies
- Ability to set priorities, make decisions, and exercise discretion with patrons and staff
- Ability to think analytically and to exercise initiative
- Ability to prioritize work, meet established deadlines, delegate duties and attend to detail as appropriate
- Ability to handle multiple and simultaneous tasks
- Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and with local and regional media
- Ability to hire, train, supervise, discipline and evaluate staff at all levels of experience
- Ability to work effectively as a team
- Knowledge of library budgetary and fiscal practices and library law
- Knowledge of computers and the Internet, especially integrated library systems software, Microsoft Office, and similar software programs
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally and to prepare and present reports and other information in the appropriate format
- Ability to work the hours needed to complete responsibilities of Library Director
Qualifications
