Hiring Range: $76,449.76 - $81,332.30 (DOQ)

Summary

The Shrewsbury Public Library is seeking a passionate and experienced Assistant Library Director to join our leadership team. This pivotal role will help carry out the Library’s Mission and Vision as outlined in our Strategic Plan for FY 2025-2029. The Assistant Library Director will play a key role in advancing the library’s services, programs, operations, and staff, ensuring that the library’s goals align with community needs and strategic objectives. This position requires a flexible work schedule, including one evening per week and Saturdays on a rotating basis to ensure the library meets the needs of its community.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and oversee the Adult Services Division, ensuring the development and improvement of reference, outreach, and technology services that support the library's mission and align with the library’s strategic priorities.
  2. Supervise and mentor a talented team of library professionals, including the Digital Services Librarian, Technology Specialist, Outreach and Marketing Librarian, and two Reference Librarians.
  3. Contribute to the library’s Strategic Plan for FY 2025-2029 by actively participating in setting goals and objectives that align with the Library’s mission and vision.
  4. Supervise, mentor, and guide full-time and part-time staff, ensuring they provide high-quality services and are prepared to meet community needs.
  5. Play a key role in budget development and financial oversight, ensuring fiscal responsibility and resource allocation to meet library goals.
  6. Develop and promote community programs that enhance library engagement, foster literacy, and strengthen our role as a community hub.
  7. Contribute to library policy and ensure that operations reflect best practices, operational priorities, and strategic goals.
  8. Assist with the preparation of the library’s annual reports and maintain an engaging and current website to meet the needs of patrons and stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For:

We seek an individual with a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program and 4-6 years of progressively responsible library management experience, including staff supervision. Alternatively, a combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

Candidates should possess:

  1. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, direct, and support staff.
  2. Budgeting expertise to allocate resources effectively while meeting library goals.
  3. A commitment to serving diverse populations with inclusive and accessible library services.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Analytical skills to assess needs, solve problems, and implement effective solutions for continuous improvement.
  6. A passion for advancing the library’s mission and vision and ensuring alignment with the goals of the Strategic Plan.
