The Wooster Group is a company of artists based in New York City that makes work for theater, dance, and media. We develop and perform our work at The Performing Garage in Manhattan at 33 Wooster Street. We also bring our work to other venues in New York as well as other theaters around the world on national and international tours.

The company has sustained a full-time, ongoing ensemble since the mid-70’s. We are constantly morphing. With our many artistic associates, we have created and performed over fifty works directed by Elizabeth LeCompte.

As a full-time Wooster Group company member, you will support sound and video artists in the development and production of new work, as well as touring existing productions domestically and internationally. This is primarily a technical position, not a design role. You’ll be responsible for the technical backend systems.

Essential Duties

Engineering and maintenance of computer systems for sound and video:

  1. Sound network maintenance (Dante)
  2. Video signal routing with NDI and TouchDesigner
  3. Control network maintenance (LAN with Mac and Windows elements)
  4. General programming support including Python, Supercollider

Sound and Video Systems supervising:

  1. Working with the Production Manager to review show riders/plots, advancing sound and video requirements for tours.
  2. Supervising load ins and outs (hanging television monitors, projectors, speakers, running cable and troubleshooting signal paths)

Additional responsibilities include:

  1. Manage and maintain sound and video equipment inventory, including but not limited to:
  • Wireless microphones and in-ear monitors
  • Video recording system
  • Cables, accessories, tools
  • Overseeing audio and video recording and show archival documentation
  • Nice to have responsibilities include:

    1. Sound editing and mixing for video
    2. Video recording & editing
    3. Live sound mixing
    4. Interactive live video and projection mapping
    5. Motion graphic design

    The ideal candidate will be comfortable with lightweight rigging using ropes & extension ladders; able to lift 50 lbs; familiar with audio and/or video programming (Ableton, TouchDesigner, SuperCollider, Adobe Suite, Yamaha CL series consoles, Dante, NDI, RealSense, Kinect, OSC networking); have a good ear and eye; and skilled at interpersonal communication.

    Knowledge of the Group’s work preferable but not required.

    This is a full-time position, and salary commensurates with experience, starting at a minimum of $50,000 per year, and includes medical, vision, and dental insurance, holidays, and paid time off. The Wooster Group is an equal opportunity employer.
