Interlochen Center for the Arts, one of America's most prestigious institutions for arts education, performance, and fine arts presentations, seeks to hire an Artist in Residence in Photography. This academic-year residency, from August 22, 2025 through May 23, 2026, offers a unique opportunity to teach a variety of darkroom and digital photography courses to students in grades 9-12 and post-graduates. The successful candidate will shape the curriculum, enhance the studio arts program, and collaborate across disciplines to foster a dynamic learning environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction in black & white chemical photography and digital photography.
  • Provide instruction in other media, such as printmaking, design, or drawing and painting,
  • Develop and teach courses that enhance the studio arts program.
  • Supervise the photography studio classroom and other studios assigned.
  • Manage inventory and ordering of supplies.
  • Attend scheduled open tutorial sessions and assist with specialized programming.
  • Prepare for and participate in exhibitions.
  • Engage in the program's extra-curricular activities, including off-campus trips.
  • Attend all departmental and full faculty meetings.


  • Master's degree in photography or other visual art areas with documented work in photography
  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience at the college level and/or with high school students
  • Proficiency in operating film and digital cameras, studio lighting, film processing, darkroom printing, and alternative processes for 35mm, medium, and large format photography
  • Expertise in using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, and printing with pigment inkjet printers and color profiles.
  • Strong understanding of contemporary art issues and theory
  • Ability to work successfully with highly creative students with diverse learning styles
  • Strong interest and willingness to collaborate with colleagues both inside and outside the Visual Arts department
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to the overall artistic environment at Interlochen
  • Possess a genuine passion for education and a commitment to fostering the artistic growth and well-being of students
  • Strong communication skills, both in one-on-one interactions with students and in broader visual arts community engagement
  • A commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment
