Position Overview: The Vice President, Digital & Online Sales will drive the strategic direction, operational efficiency, and sustained sales growth for Hachette Book Group’s print and digital sales through major online accounts. This role will oversee a national account team, ensuring a coordinated approach across print, digital audio, and eBook channels. The VP will be a key leader within the organization, developing and executing strategies that maximize revenue, operational performance, and customer relationships with our largest online accounts, with a focus on Amazon and other online platforms.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Online sales directors, national account managers and metadata managers ensuring clear communication, goal alignment, and ongoing professional development. Drive a culture of performance excellence and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with the EVP of Sales to define and execute the digital and online sales strategy across print, digital audio, and eBook categories. Lead the team in delivering robust, sustainable growth through strategic operational planning and data-driven decisions.
- Identify and implement operational improvements to streamline sales processes, reduce friction, and increase efficiency. Leverage analytics and data to continually assess the effectiveness of sales strategies and refine tactics to drive business growth.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for key online accounts, including Amazon, for all aspects of sales and operations. Build and maintain strong relationships, identifying opportunities to increase revenue through enhanced merchandising, title placement, and promotions.
- Partner with internal teams including IT, Operations, and Publishing to ensure alignment on metadata, file management, and catalog issues. Proactively address any internal challenges related to product availability, title placement, or digital assets.
- Utilize Amazon and other online retail data to develop actionable insights for your team, leadership, and key stakeholders. Regularly track and report on sales performance, trends, and opportunities to ensure consistent growth.
- Work closely with our metadata team to ensure optimization to improve discoverability and sales
- Be the key point of contact for resolving complex issues related to online sales, inventory, cataloging, and customer service. Quickly identify solutions to ensure a seamless experience for both internal teams and external customers.
- Represent HBG in meetings with Amazon and other online retail partners. Lead regular calls, discussions, and strategy sessions to align priorities and drive the business forward.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- 10+ years in publishing or online retail, with a focus on managing national or large online accounts. Proven track record of leading digital sales initiatives and teams, particularly with major online retailers like Amazon.
- Extensive experience managing and mentoring a team of employees, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
- Strong strategic planning skills with a hands-on, data-driven approach to solving complex business challenges. Ability to adapt quickly to changing market conditions with a focus on aligning team efforts with overall business goals.
- Deep understanding of the publishing industry, digital sales channels, and online marketing tools. Expertise in Amazon’s platform, including merchandising, analytics, and promotional strategies a plus.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data and strategic plans to senior leadership and external partners.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and other analytical tools. Able to interpret large datasets, track KPIs, and make data-driven decisions to optimize sales performance.
- Self-motivated and collaborative with a strong sense of ownership. Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and drive initiatives to completion.

- Ability to travel as needed to meet with clients, attend industry events, and collaborate with internal teams.

The compensation range for this position is $160,000-190,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
