Job Description Summary
Under the general supervision of the University Librarian, this tenure track faculty librarian will have responsibility for supporting the library's YouTube channel, electronic resource services, as well providing reference, research, and instructional services and Information Literacy (IL) programming as needed. The Digital Projects, E-Resources, & Instructional Services Librarian works in a collaborative, team-based environment to actively support students and faculty information needs.
The Digital Projects, E-Resources, & Instructional Services Librarian will work in a team environment to make all resources - whether print or electronic - accessible and available to serve both educational and leisure interests of the student body, supporting a culture of learning and use of library resources, collections, and research services using the library's Integrated Library System, (currently OCLC), Knowledgebase, LibGuides, and other library resources. The Serials, E-Resources, & Instructional Services Librarian contributes their individual skills and experience when assisting with cataloging and records management, maintenance of the KnowledgeBase (KB), and other systems in order to support the library's mission, values, and objectives, relying on teamwork and judgment in establishing priorities among changing and competing demands. This position is both front facing and Technical Services.
This tenure-track faculty position is also expected to be part of supporting the teaching mission of the University by actively engaging with students, playing a key role in working on Information Literacy and Outreach projects as part of the reference research and instruction section of the Daniel A. Cannon Memorial Library, teaching information literacy, critical thinking, library research skills, databases, and other topics as requested by the Assessment and Instruction Librarian. This person will also work closely with other library faculty and teaching faculty to foster and encourage a culture of learning and use of library resources, collections, research and other services. This position may be required to support the embedded librarian project, by being embedded in classes as requested by the University Librarian.
Tenure track faculty librarians are expected to support the mission of the university through their work in the library; they are also expected to publish and present at conferences; and give of their time and talent through service to the university, the larger community, and the profession.
Job Description
DUTIES AND TASKS:
•Catalogs and maintains a variety of library materials, including print serials, eBooks, and e-serials records as needed; updates bibliographic records; receives donations and works with the other library faculty to determine disposition.
•Maintains currency and ensures accuracy of print and e-resource collections using OCLC Knowledgebase, OCLC WMS, EBSCO subscription services, along with other vendors and systems.
•Keeps up-to-date, accurate and detailed records concerning serial subscriptions, A-Z resources, catalog record issues, and print subscriptions.
•Coordinates access to e-resources with Learning Design and promotes e-resources to faculty, students, and staff
•Maintains the KnowledgeBase and the library's catalog (OCLC WMS), contributing expertise in this area to maintain accurate records and collections, updating print, e-resources, and serial title lists in the catalog as they occur.
•Creates and maintains quarterly and annual reports for Technical Services, including collection management, collection development, new titles, inventory, cataloging, collection development, ebook usage statistics, LibGuides usage, and more.
•Provides insight on Collection Development best practices to faculty, staff and the Library Committee
•Embedded in 5-10 classes per term as part of the embedded team
•Provides non-traditional and traditional reference services for students and faculty to support the mission of the University by assisting students in improving their research and writing skills
•Teaches library instruction sessions -in person and via the web or other technologies.
•Assists students in person and online in improving their research skills via Zoom, as partner in the embedded librarian project and other means
•Directs, trains, and supervises 1-3 detail oriented FWS student workers, who assist with collections processing of donations, basic copy cataloging, serials, receiving, processing and checking in items, tracking use, reporting missing and damaged print serials, etc., and assisting with checking e-serials records for currency, and trains and assists student workers when repairing materials.
•Directs, trains, and supervises Graduate student employees or undergraduate student employees in preparing new library materials for Cannon Memorial Library collections, including monitoring output quality, that includes affixing barcode, property stamp, security tag(s), and spine labels, book jackets.
•Directs, trains and at times supervises circulation area, to ensure best practices in stacks maintenance, circulation practices, inventory management, and donations processing.
•Collaborates with part time librarian/adjunct librarian on projects in Technical Services as the lead librarian.
•Maintain monthly statistics of bibliographic records updated or added, provide report to the University Librarian
•Notify faculty of availability of items they have requested, or which fall within specific programs
•Manage standing orders as needed
•Supervise and coordinate Inventory, loss prevention, and collection shifts, etc.
•Works closely with other librarians to actively support collection assessment and execute collection development decisions guided by the library's Collection Development Policies, and in consultation with the library administrator.
•Uphold service, system standards, and best practices to ensure high quality access to electronic resources and ease of discovery of library collections and resources in all formats
•Develops and maintains academic relationships with students and faculty in person and using University online platforms to encourage academic and professional growth, and use of the library.
•Exhibits expertise in how best to provide reliable seamless access to all patrons (including ADA) in our diverse and evolving discovery landscape, which includes library management systems,
knowledge bases, discovery systems, central authentication services, and access options which support diverse and growing e-collections. Works with the Library Technology Specialist, faculty librarians, and the University Librarian to support the mission, vision and values of the University and Library.
•Creates and maintains some YouTube videos for the library under the direction of the University Librarian
•A Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday schedule is anticipated. One weekend shift and some evenings may be required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
•Master's Degree from an American Library Association accredited program, at least one year of cataloging experience and knowledgebase management, as well as some teaching experience.
•Knowledge of best practices in cataloging, print and e-collection access and maintenance
•Creating and maintaining course-related LibGuides to make them accessible and visible.
•Expertise in e-resource collection management practices and discovery systems
•Some experience with major Integrated Library Systems or other automated systems
•Understanding of reference, research, or liaison services in an academic or research library environment.
•One-to-three years' experience training, evaluating, and managing workflows, content, and teams
•Knowledge of best practices in one-shot library instruction
•Knowledge of best practices in marketing the library to increase user engagement
•Understanding of soft-skills to assist students improve their research
Skills:
•Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
•Excellent Metadata, collection support, cataloging skills
•In-depth familiarity with Microsoft Office suite
•Good communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
•Strong aptitude and ability to work with large datasets and numbers
•Excellent computer skills in basic applications and online searching
