The Design Manager is responsible for overseeing architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical design efforts within the construction division. This position includes evaluating, implementing, updating, and managing drafting software to enhance the overall sales process and drive operational success.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Involvement

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Communicate the company’s core values and competitive strengths to clients during the sales process.
  • Investigate and share knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes, emerging construction trends, and advancements in technology with team members and clients.
  • Prepare initial floor plans, site layouts, elevations, and detailed designs based on limited information, including performing detailed code reviews.
  • Refine drawings to near-construction-ready status for transfer to licensed architects.
  • Integrate industry best practices and cost-effective methods into the drafting process to maximize project value.
  • Collaborate with teams to resolve delays by implementing corrective measures promptly.

Client Engagement

  • Advise clients on design strategies while building and maintaining strong, long-term relationships.
  • Present draft and final designs to clients, ensuring clear communication of expectations, critical timelines, and key project details to internal teams.
  • Offer continued client support after project agreements or contracts are finalized.
  • Establish and monitor departmental performance metrics and success benchmarks.
  • Maintain regular communication with the estimating team to ensure project alignment and goal clarity.
  • Facilitate periodic project reviews to confirm tactical plans are being executed as intended.
  • Partner with project managers to stay informed on construction techniques, industry trends, and best practices.
  • Assist in design-build initiatives, preconstruction planning, due diligence, RFQs/RFPs, and strategic priorities under the direction of the estimating manager.
