Description

The Library Intern is a paid internship, and the intern will work in support of the library and the company archives. They will work directly with the physical collection to improve library functionality and efficiency. The ideal candidate will be curious, highly organized, and possess excellent attention to detail. This position will split time between library collection management tasks and archives processing tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in learning about corporate librarianship, archives management, or both. This will be an in-office position at our World Headquarters facility in Kansas City.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying and helping develop process improvements
  • Assist with performing a shelf audit of the physical collection
  • Assist with updating and maintaining online catalog data
  • Assist with evaluation and processing of archival materials
  • Assist with creation of finding aids for archival materials
  • Assist with performing circulation duties
  • Support efforts to enhance patron experience
  • Assist in project management efforts as needed
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS, MLS, MIS) or Master’s degree in Archival Studies or related field.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred
  • Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager learner, with an aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
