In collaboration with the College of Fine Arts & Communication (COFAC) Events Coordinator, the COFAC Technical Director will coordinate and oversee all technical and production aspects of COFAC events, including Stephens Hall Theatre and its ancillary facilities.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Oversee day-to-day operations of Stephens Hall Theatre and ancillary facilities. Maintain a safe working environment for performers, staff, and patrons, compliant with best practices, industry standards, Towson policies, and Occupational Life and Safety Codes (OSHA). Support, operate, and maintain the theatre assets, providing supervision and training in lighting, sound, video, rigging, communications, and all production and facilities systems and equipment. Responsible for recommendations for improvement projects for facility and related equipment.
- In collaboration with the COFAC Events Coordinator, coordinate scheduling and staffing of COFAC events. Serve as the primary liaison for Stephens Hall Theatre with TU Facilities Management, ABM, Event Producers, TU Public safety, and necessary TU Contingent/Student Staff. Review, plan, and execute all user agreements, riders, and event related paperwork. Serve as Stephens Hall point of contact for technical questions. This includes, but is not limited to, build and load in schedules, light hang and focus, sound system load ins, scheduling and running related production planning meetings, generating cost estimates.
- Hire, train, schedule and supervise all technical staff needed to support all COFAC events and day-to-day operations. Create and maintain a schedule and maintain a pool of technicians of varying skill level to support all production requests. Train students and hire qualified contingent employees. Meet regularly with COFAC Facilities and Operations Manager to review, schedule, and plan strategy for support.
- Support and collaborate with other COFAC venue production staff when alternative venues need production support, ensuring contingent/student employees are familiar with the venue’s protocols and equipment. Provide guidance, available equipment, training, and any other means of production support available.
- Generate and update technical specifications and documentation regularly. Work in collaborating with the operations and event staff to generate and maintain guidelines for users of the facilities.
- Serve on applicable college committees such as COFAC Technology Committee.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's Degree and one year of related work experience.
- Experience in Technical Theatre or related field.
- Working knowledge of current safety codes and operating procedures.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use, maintenance and troubleshooting of standard production equipment and scenic shop tools.
- Creative understanding of theatre technology in the areas of lighting, sound, stage rigging, stage machinery, projections and special effects.
- Experience with drafting, interpreting plans, and drafting software (AutoCAD and Vectorworks).
- Management and problem-solving skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience with internet and computer software applications.
- Arial Lift Certified or willing to complete certification process.
- Strong sense of integrity and willingness to accept responsibility. Must be able to handle confidential information.
- Ability to interact with a diverse team and work in a diverse environment.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Good attendance and travel between COFAC venues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Dante certified or willingness to complete the certification.
- Positive experience with and professionalism internal and external constituents.
- Demonstrated ability with collaboration.
Salary and Benefits
Targeted Hiring Range is $59,000-$64,000 annually and full University benefits that include 22 days of annual leave, up to 15 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission. To learn more about our benefits, click here.
