The New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy is seeking to hire a Media Manager with the primary responsibilities of managing its online footprint, curating its content, and coordinating online and in-person events. This full-time position will report to the Institute’s Senior Director of Operations.
The New Lines Institute aims to provoke principled and transformative leadership based on peace and security, global communities, character, stewardship, and development. The Institute pursues its mission by shaping U.S. foreign policy based on a deep understanding of regional geopolitics and the value systems of those regions.
Duties
Social Media:
Prepare all social media and supporting graphic content for the Institute’s channels on a weekly basis.
Post the Institute’s content to social media, respond to staff requests, engage audiences, etc.
Develop platform-specific targets for key/priority platforms (X, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, etc.).
Prepare in-depth monthly/quarterly analytics reports for social media channels and present findings and recommendations to staff in relevant meetings.
Work closely with the Institute’s leadership and staff to implement recommended actions to achieve set targets, augment the Institute’s online presence, and maximize reach and impact of its work.
Work closely with the Institute’s editorial, design, and communications specialists to set and implement appropriate digital communications procedures and workflows.
Website:
Coordinate with all Portfolios and Departments to ensure the Institute’s website accurately reflects its work and structure.
Coordinate content development and content posting with the editorial team, including the development of new pages, sections/subsections, etc.
Coordinate technical and design updates with web developers, designers, and IT.
Generate regular reports using GA4 and other tools on website activity, including traffic, top pages, etc., and conduct regular SEO analysis and improvements.
Events:
Assist in planning and executing the Institute’s events online and in person (e.g. panel discussions, roundtables, workshops, conferences, etc.), including managing catering and event logistics.
Prepare event materials and promote events through social media, email campaigns, and the website.
Provide onsite support, including managing AV, livestreams, and audience engagement, during events as needed.
Conduct post-event evaluation surveys and ensure appropriate follow-up.
Additional responsibilities:
Coordinate the Institute’s newsletter with the editorial team.
Maintain and update the Institute’s contact databases.
Draft and disseminate media advisories and press releases to relevant outlets.
Provide additional relevant support as directed.
Qualifications
Graduate degree in International Affairs, Political Science, Communications, or a related discipline, with at least four years of relevant professional experience.
Experience setting up and/or managing social media accounts for a think tank or similar organization.
Experience with social media monitoring and reporting tools. Specific experience with Meltwater is a plus.
Experience coordinating website content upload and management/curation. Specific experience with WordPress and GA4 is a plus.
Experience preparing regular reports on social media and website performance, and presenting/communicating findings, recommendations and follow-up actions to leadership and staff.
Experience with event planning, management/facilitation, and evaluation.
Experience managing contact databases and email newsletters. Specific experience with Mailchimp is a plus.
Exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills.
Salary range: $50,000 -$60,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Location: Hybrid, with at least three days per week in-person at the Institute’s offices in Washington, D.C.
