The Civil Design SME will be responsible for ensuring the integrity, compliance, and functionality of all civil engineering designs throughout the project lifecycle, including installation, construction, decommissioning, and demolition phases. This individual will provide expert guidance to the Project Management Team and report directly to the Technical Manager. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in civil design and construction project management, particularly in critical infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Civil Design Leadership:
    • Lead and provide expertise in civil design and engineering, ensuring designs meet functional, structural, and safety standards.
    • Oversee the preparation of all civil engineering designs, plans, and technical specifications, including site layouts, grading, foundations, drainage systems, and roadways.
    • Ensure designs align with local regulations, building codes, and industry best practices, as well as project-specific requirements.
  2. Project Coordination & Management:
    • Collaborate with the Project Management Team to ensure civil design elements are integrated into the overall project schedule and objectives.
    • Support in the evaluation of potential project risks related to civil engineering and offer design solutions to mitigate these risks.
    • Provide technical oversight and direction during the design and construction phases, coordinating between civil engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to maintain project quality and timelines.
  3. Site Assessment and Feasibility:
    • Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies of projects, analyzing topography, soil conditions, and environmental factors to inform civil design.
    • Provide recommendations on site selection and modification, addressing any unique challenges posed by each site.
  4. Design Review & Approval:
    • Review and approve all civil engineering designs, drawings, and plans submitted by external consultants or contractors.
    • Ensure all civil design deliverables are accurate, comprehensive, and delivered on time, making sure they meet project specifications, safety requirements, and budget constraints.
  5. Installation, Decommissioning, and Demolition Support:
    • Oversee the civil design aspects of the installation, decommissioning, and demolition of critical infrastructure.
    • Ensure the designs accommodate future dismantling and site restoration plans, maintaining safety, environmental, and regulatory standards throughout each phase.
    • Provide guidance on the required civil engineering modifications during decommissioning or demolition activities.
  6. Collaboration with Other Disciplines:
    • Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and environmental teams to ensure that all civil design components integrate smoothly with other aspects of the projects.
    • Provide support in resolving design challenges and ensuring compliance across disciplines.
  7. Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    • Ensure that all civil engineering designs and execution adhere to internal quality assurance processes, external regulations, and safety standards.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and ensure the design is in full compliance with local and national codes.
  8. Reporting and Documentation:
    • Regularly report to the Technical Manager on progress, design modifications, and any potential issues impacting the civil design of the project.
    • Prepare and maintain detailed records of all civil design documentation, including reports, drawings, calculations, and approvals, for project tracking and future reference.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in civil design and engineering, with a strong focus on critical infrastructure, or similar large-scale construction projects.
