Employees in this job classification assigned to a Rural Library location may be eligible for a 5% premium.

An Employee's Principal Work Location must be one of the following to be eligible: Alpine, Borrego Springs, Campo, Crest, Descanso, Fallbrook, Fletcher Hills, Jacumba, Julian, Lincoln Acres, Pine Valley, Potrero, Ramona, or Valley Center.
The Digital Projects and Metadata Position:

This position is responsible for the cataloging, classification and digital preservation of items using national standards and local practices. This unit will also lead San Diego County Library's efforts to act as a publisher for digital content related to the business of the County.

Branch Manager Position:

This position is responsible for managing a large branch, planning and overseeing branch programming, cooperating with community groups, local leaders, and Friends of the Library to generate public support. You may be responsible for collaborating with local elected and government officials as well as providing supervision and training to professional and paraprofessional staff.

  • Manage a large branch or library support division;

Hiring Timeline & Dates
  • Job Offer and Background Process begins in March 2025. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. A master's degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certificate of foreign studies equivalency, AND three (3) years of full-time experience as a professional librarian that includes progressively responsible supervisory experience; OR,
  2. A master's degree as described above, AND one (1) year of full-time experience as a Librarian II with the County of San Diego.

Note: A master's degree in Library Science from a U.S. college or university or a certified foreign studies equivalency, accredited by the American Library Association is highly desirable. Experience working in a public library is also highly desirable.

Condition of Employment
As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
Evaluation
Qualified candidates will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained on their employment and supplemental applications.
