POSITION: Youth Pastor (Assistant Pastor)

POSITION PURPOSE: To create and execute the vision of the Family and Student Ministry to

build strong disciples in Christ

DIRECT REPORT: Pastor, Music Row


Role Specific Expectations:


Leadership and Shepherding

  • Work with the Music Row Pastor and other staff to provide care, spiritual growth, and leadership for students 6th to 12th grade.
  • Partner with the Children’s Ministry Coordinator and pastor at Music Row, to develop curriculum and a discipleship plans for children and youth to ensure the continuity of a comprehensive youth discipleship program.
  • Develop the student ministry vision with CPC’s stated vision and pathway (worship, encourage, serve) for students grades 6-12, and their families. In so doing, create a “culture of students” in the life of the church that is visibly inviting, compelling, and accessible to all.
  • Ensure a level of excellence in Sunday morning, midweek, and seasonal student programming (i.e., retreats, summer programming, fun events, service projects, etc.) that honors Christ, connects students to CPC and each other, and sets them up to love the local church and “pathway discipleship” by the time they graduate high school, such that they pursue the same when in college and beyond.
  • Achieve and sustain a robust, well-trained and equipped, “staff led, volunteer run” dynamic.
  • Serve as a player-coach by also being the primary staff member to pursue and shepherd students grades 6-12, and ensure there is pursuit and shepherding for children of all ages at Music Row.
  • Cultivate, lead, and participate in child and student membership interviews with CPC Elders.
  • Recruit and train youth ministry volunteers on an ongoing basis.
  • Train, equip and care for the overall morale of an always-growing volunteer team

Administration

  • Communicate regularly with parents to ensure they are aware of everything going on in Family ministry (childrens and students)
  • Communicate all programming communication needs (social media, newsletter, etc.) to the Ministry Director.
  • Ensure the Christ Presbyterian Church kids and students safety plan is effectively implemented, and add additional elements as needed at Music Row for the safety of all children and students in regards to student/child safety and volunteers
  • Oversee the Student Ministry budget and track monthly spending to ensure optimal, faithful use of financial resources.
  • Partner with Music Row staff to develop a cohesive family ministry that leads to a seamless scope, sequence, and experience from birth to graduation for kids and families.

Programming

  • Plan and execute all Student Ministry large group programming ensuring it is excellent in promotion, production, execution, and attendance.
  • Plan, prepare, and teach lessons, Bible studies, devotionals, etc. as needed with language consistent with principles from the public speaking document of Christ Presbyterian Church.
  • Serve, be engaged with, and support overall church programming, including Sunday Morning worship and other church events as needed.

Relationships

  • Developing relationships with students, including contact work with students and families
  • Build relationships with parents associated with the children and student ministries
  • Partner with the Location Pastor to care for and equip lay Student Leaders.
  • Develop, along with Ministry Director and Location Pastor, a Family Ministry Committee to serve alongside staff in the execution of ministry goals

Operations & Development

  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Meet weekly or as needed with the Location Pastor, Children’s Ministry Director, and/or Ministry Director to check in on spiritual and emotional health, and go over the progress of personal and ministry goals
  • Partner with the Ministry Director to request, structure, and manage the spending of a yearly budget
  • Partner with all members of the Music Row staff to contribute to the greater goals and systems of the ministry, even when the tasks do not specifically align with the rest of this job description
  • Pursue ongoing learning and development in specific ministry focus areas including but not limited to: family ministry, volunteer leadership, theological study, missions and service, and worship.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Education

  • M.Div. or Equivalent
  • Ordained or Ordainable in the PCA

Experience and Skills

  • Has a minimum of 3 years of experience in ministry
  • Ability to delegate and organize
  • Is able to develop relationships with parents, as well as train volunteer leaders to do the same
  • Possesses strong relational skills with the ability to engage those of all ages

Requirements

  • Membership at Christ Presbyterian Church or Nashville Presbytery once ordained is required.
