KQED seeks a temporary on-call Producer to help support our podcast department as we work on a limited series chat-based show that explores personal, societal and cultural issues through a Latinx lens.
We’re looking for a producer with experience and/or expertise in Latino/a/x/e issues and with at least 2 years of audio experience, including audio production, research, interview prep, and booking guests. Experience with the talk/chat show genre and video production is a plus. This position will primarily be responsible for supporting the host and editor create the series. Our candidate should be well organized and detail-oriented and able to thrive working in a small, collaborative, supportive team-environment, while working on a compressed timeline.
This is an on-call SAG-AFTRA role running through early June 2025, with variable hours (up to 24 hours/week). The successful candidate will be required to join The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).

Salary Information: $44.00 - $53.00 per hour
Essential Functions:
Pitch episode ideas and potential guests to the host and team
Book and pre-interview guests
Support host with show prep and in-studio direction and production
Record, log and edit audio/tape for episodes
Assemble a mix or structure for a story/episode in a multitrack audio editor
Develop sound design and scoring elements to enhance the storytelling
Help conceptualize and frame episodes and interviews
Contribute to research as needed
Produce or assist with producing promotional content for the show
Contribute to social media or other digital content as needed
Assist with live or virtual events as needed
Stay informed and assist where needed with show promotion and marketing, audience analytics, and special projects/series
Knowledge/Experience Required:
At least two years of experience as an audio producer, reporter, or similar role
Strong interest and expertise in subject matter of the show: Latino/a/x/e issues
Proficiency or mastery in Pro Tools, Adobe Audition or similar audio editing software program
Strong audio editing and studio recording/directing skills
Experience writing and editing/giving feedback on audio treatments, prep documents and scripts, especially in the chat/talk show genre
Excellent collaborator, knows how to work on a collective vision and support the team, including giving and receiving feedback
Ability to prioritize and manage working on multiple episodes at once while meeting deadlines and communicating clearly with rest of the team
Strong understanding of journalistic principles, ethics and standards
Strong writing and research skills
Ability to interview and communicate with a variety of individuals
Knowledge/Experience Desired:
Experience with live radio production and/or talk/chat podcast genre
Experience and proficiency in video editing, especially Premiere
Experience working in a demographically and racially diverse environment is strongly desired
Proficiency and strong interest in engaging listeners via social media or other digital platforms
Experience writing and publishing stories for the web and social media
