Summary: This is a full-time position in Quantico, VA. The ideal candidate will be residing in the DMV area.This position is responsible for researching, writing, and editing a wide range of high-quality written materials, including articles, press releases, internal communications, and multimedia content. The ideal candidate is a skilled writer with a strong understanding of journalistic principles and the ability to effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Research, write, proofread, and edit various written materials, including but not limited to:
    • Articles and press releases
    • Internal communication products (e.g., newsletters, presentations)
    • Fact sheets and white papers
    • Scripts for videos and presentations
    • Speeches and talking points
    • Exhibit graphics and brochures
    • Mission features and magazines
    • Journalistic-type articles for various publications
    • Multimedia products (e.g., video scripts, social media content)
  • Provide meticulous editing and writing support for all publications, ensuring accuracy in grammar, punctuation, spelling, sentence clarity, and format.
  • Adhere to AP (Associated Press) style guidelines in all written materials unless otherwise directed.
  • Research, develop, and write a variety of acquisition-related and human-interest news and feature stories through interviews, observations, networking, and library/online resources for publication in national print magazines, press releases, and online content.
  • Evaluate and recommend the tone and intended audience of stories, investigate and determine the validity of story leads, and collaborate with the OPAC team and other departments.
  • Post all articles to the command's website using the Armed Forces Public Information Management System (AFPIMS) and the DVIDS website.
  • Perform other ad hoc duties in support of the department's mission, including conducting interviews, attending programmatic meetings, and capturing ad hoc photos/video.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in professional writing and editing.
  • Strong understanding of journalistic principles and AP style.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to research and gather information effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and content management systems.
  • Experience with social media platforms (preferred).
  • Experience in a government or military environment (preferred).
