Job Summary
ThePR/Communications Manager for the Kahlert School of Computing develops and implements,
policies and programs in relation to development and community engagement. These programs will include cultivating industrial partners and other stakeholders, planned giving, major gifts, public relations initiatives, alumni relations, neighborhood partnerships, and resource planning. The candidate’s efforts will support industry outreach as it pertains to a range of degree programs offered by the school, from undergraduate to graduate programs, including the Masters of Software Development program. Requires specialized skill set. Conduct highly complex work, unsupervised and with extensive latitude for independent judgment. The successful candidate will report to the Director of the School as part of the School’s leadership team, and will interface and collaborate with faculty and other staff.
Responsibilities

Develops, implements, and maintains programs that increase the impact of education and research in the School, and supports advancement initiatives to meet the workforce needs of the state.

Initiates and coordinates supporting events (for existing programs such as the School’s Industrial
Advisory Board and Alumni Group, as well as new programs) that showcase the School of
Computing and engage the external community. Evaluates program effectiveness.

Estimates budgetary requirements for special projects and oversees associated purchases and inventory.

Works with the School’s Public Relations Specialist to develop communication strategies for the
Compute brochure, recruiting flyers, website, and social media.
- Partners with faculty to manage student capstone projects, which includes recruiting industry
sponsorship, executing contracts between industry and the University, and monitoring budgets
to ensure proper spend down of projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of assigned department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department.
Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
