CSI’s Creative Exchange Continuing Education, lifelong learning program serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We offer learning experiences for personal growth that are unique to college, in and out of the classroom. Our programs are responsive to our student community’s self-identified needs, regardless of ability, and align with best practices in the field of post-secondary education for adults with IDD.
The Creative Exchange Instructor reports to the Director of Community Educational Engagement, and will lead two, in-person lifelong learning courses for adults with IDD on self-advocacy and self-care. Please see our catalog at csi.cuny.edu/creative to view course descriptions.
Other Duties
The instructor will perform the following responsibilities:
- Establish course objectives based on student needs, strengths, goals, and feedback
- Plan and implement activities based on the student’s individual needs, strengths, and goals
- Utilize student feedback and performance to determine lessons
- Create customized lessons for virtual courses for adults with IDD
- Demonstrates student-centered instruction that protects students’ safety and rights
- Submit attendance records and quarterly student ratings that track student progress in the course based on the individual needs and goals in the program
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- As a local, lifelong learning program, Creative Exchange honors the lived experience of our community members. Retired educators, retired professionals, and retired enthusiasts who have passion for their craft are encouraged to apply
- Experience working with an IDD population
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Ability to mediate conflict
- Excellent communication (written, verbal, and interpersonal) skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
- A proactive and organized employee who can work autonomously
- Highly motivated with a willingness to be flexible and creative
