Brand Journalist Job at Ilitch Holdings in Detroit

Job Summary
This position will lead creative storytelling and content creation for the Ilitch Companies News Hub, working across the organization’s diverse set of companies in the food, sports and entertainment, development, and other industries. This role requires someone who is experienced at interviewing internal and external sources to create content and develop stories. The role will manage a robust editorial calendar and provide direct supervision of other writers/content developers. Must be self-directed, self-motivated, and creative.

Key Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, write, edit and deploy multiple stories and social media posts per week for the Ilitch Companies News Hub.
• Develop and maintain content calendars, article database, assignments, deadlines, and all tactical elements of editorial production schedules.
• Serve in a supervisory role to other content producers.
• Work independently and cross-functionally with colleagues across all Ilitch companies to create relationships with sources, find story ideas, catalogue upcoming events, and develop new and unique storytelling concepts.
• Work extensively with creative teams to develop a variety of high-quality multimedia pieces including videos, blog articles, social media posts, etc.
• Write creative briefs in coordination with multimedia production team and copywriters to direct content that conveys executive-approved messaging across Ilitch Companies associated brands and charities.

Supplemental Job Functions

• Support in maintenance of WordPress CMS.
• Support in maintenance of social media channels.
• Ability to communicate effectively with direct reports, business unit counterparts, teammates, and supervisor.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, PR or related field.
• Minimum of seven to ten years of related work experience with progressive responsibilities.
• Excellent editing and proofreading skills.
• Ability to quickly understand organizational culture and translate this culture into all communications pieces.
• Evidence of flexibility and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with others at all times and be a strong and willing contributor to project teams.
