Publicity Assistant, Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group (Hybrid)

The Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, a storied leader in commercial and literary publishing and home to some of the most iconic authors in the world, is seeking a Publicity Assistant to join their team and provide day-to-day support to the Executive Director of Publicity. Responsibilities consist of both heavy administrative and project work.

The Role:

  • Support supervisor in all facets of their daily work: calendar management and scheduling; phone, email, letters, memos, and other written correspondence; running detailed sales reports; research on a variety of subjects; understanding of key toolsets (Bookscan, Muck Rack, TNT, Power BI, Microsoft Teams); handling mailings; other clerical support (notes, memos, etc.); event planning
  • Coordinate all internal and external communications efforts, including departmental meetings, agent and author calls, meetings with key media contacts, and more
  • Develop and write press releases, pitch letters, author Q&As, and press kits
  • Identify key audiences on a title-by-title basis, develop targeted mailing lists, and execute galley mailings
  • Contact with agents, authors, booksellers, and media
  • Coordination of publicity campaigns
  • Assist with planning for book tours, media outreach, detailed itineraries, and some author travel, where necessary
  • Manage several departmental tasks, including budget tracking, expenses, award submissions, subscriptions, and the like
  • This is a fast-paced position that requires someone with an extremely professional manner and the ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines

This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities in our NYC office, which will include executing mailings and participating in and contributing to in-person meetings with authors and agents. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our office at 1745 Broadway.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Exceptional writing skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to read on deadline
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Previous administrative experience
  • Excel, PowerPoint, Word required. Canva is a plus
  • Self-starter with the ability to develop new projects and departmental initiatives
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Strong interest in the book publishing industry
  • Fluent in digital technology and social media
  • A goal-oriented team player who can cultivate productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in creative problem solving, decision making, and time management
  • Book Publishing or Publicity/PR internship experience a plus but not required

The salary for this position is $51,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
