POSITION DUTIES
This position is an Audio-Visual Engineer within the Information Technology Division and is a technical role in the implementation and performance of the Comptroller of Maryland (COM) Audio-Visual infrastructure. The primary purpose of this position is to manage, plan, implement, and integrate COM’s AV infrastructure and applications. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, operations & maintenance (O&M), solution design and implementation, firmware upgrades, providing technical support, and optimizing AV solutions. This includes coordinating, providing guidance and support to personnel either at COM, other agencies, vendors, and other visitors with connecting and using the audio-visual solutions.
This position also provides guidance and direction in the areas of hardware, software, audio, video, live streaming, and evaluation of work. The Audio-Visual Engineer will serve as the first technical escalation point for audio-visual systems and will be tasked with designing comprehensive audio-visual systems tailored to agency needs. This involves drafting diagrams and plans, coordinating with different teams, and overseeing the installation of the systems. The AV Engineer will be responsible for managing the relationships with AV vendors ensuring that new AV systems meet Comptroller standards and that service SLA’s are being met when there are issues with systems.
NOTE: The position will require periodic travel between multiple Comptroller locations around the State of Maryland. ITD is responsible for the 24x7x365 support for ADC mainframe, distributed systems, and networks. All ITD employees are available for on-call support. As such, this position is required to occasionally work an off-hour schedule, weekdays prior to 7:30 a.m. and/or after 5:00 p.m., weekends, and holidays.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years and six months of experience, one year of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks and an additional eighteen months of experience converting data from project specifications by preparing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools; planning, installing and maintaining data communications network lines and devices; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software.
NOTES: Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and fifteen credit hours from an accredited college or university in systems analysis and applications programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools for the additional eighteen months of the required experience. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and completion of a certification program in Network Administration, such as Certified Novell Administrator (CNA), Microsoft Certified Product Specialist NT 4.0 Administrator or equivalent certification program for the additional eighteen months of the required experience. Candidates may substitute experience in one of the following areas on a year-for-year basis for graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate: operating computer systems, scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining backups or data storage, processing data on computer systems, evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software or converting data from project specifications by developing programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree in computer information technology, management information systems, or other information technology related field, including course work in local or wide area computer networks, from an accredited college or university and one year of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks for the required experience. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Network Analyst classifications or Network Integration and Management specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least 3 years’ experience with configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting AV control systems like Q-SYS, Extron, or Crestron. Experience in configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting & system tuning of audio DSP files for QSC/Q-SYS, and the ability to test and troubleshoot. Networking experience and ability to configure networked AV devices, networked audio (AES67, Dante, Q-LAN etc.), Video over IP (NVX, Q-SYS Shift, NAV, etc.). Experience providing support for live, on-site, and hybrid meetings using Cisco Webex, Zoom and MS Teams collaboration platforms, endpoints, and soft-clients. Strong proficiency for cable terminations including audio, video, Category cabling, fiber, and control. Certifications from QSC/Q-SYS, Dante, Shure, CTS and others is a plus.
