Job Summary:
The Library Resource Assistant provides support to library operations by assisting the Marist community with ordering, reserving, cataloging, and processing of resources and materials, as well as other tasks to support and promote the library. Work is performed mostly independently.
Physical Effort & Work Environment:
The work environment consists of exposure to physical conditions typical of a normal office environment. Most of the job is performed while sitting, although the work may require occasional standing or walking and/or the lifting and carrying of small objects.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a high school graduate, have 5-7 years of progressively responsible secretarial/clerical work or any combination of training, experience and education sufficient to indicate an ability to do the work. All candidates must also be able to demonstrate general computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as initial contact at the circulation desk for library patrons. Answer questions in person and over the phone about resources and materials, the campus, and general library inquiries.
- Check out books, manage patron records, create new patron records, and search books and resources using the Alma system.
- Support patrons in accessing library materials.
- Process and track Course Reserves including creating and editing courses, adding requested books and resources to courses using the Alma system.
- Create library promotional materials such as social media posts, posters, and other marketing displays using Canva and Hootsuite.
- Assist with student worker calendar for accurate scheduling, make adjustments, and find coverage when needed.
- Assist with the supervision, training, and coordination of student workers.
- Enter and access information using software systems such as Microsoft Excel, Libcal, and FoxHunt.
- Greet all queries and requests with courtesy and tact in a manner consistent with policies and procedures. Have the ability to handle difficult people.
- Perform other job-related duties as required.
