Baltimore has an immediate opening for a News Photographer Part-Time.

The ideal Photojournalist must be multi-skilled and independent, with the ability to do whatever it takes to get the job done on their own or with partners. They should be technically skilled and eager to continue learning and evolving as new technologies are deployed. They must be a great teammate to join our award-winning staff and see their on-air, production, and engineering colleagues as partners all striving for the success of the station.

Photographers are responsible for covering news stories and events by shooting incredible pictures, telling phenomenal stories through creative editing, and serving the on-air and digital audiences with reliable and technically skilled live remotes. A successful candidate must have the ability to capture compelling visuals and audio at the speed of news with a “can-do” attitude and drive.

Baltimore is a fast-paced, news-soaked city, sandwiched between DC and Philadelphia. WJZ is a long-time leader in the market.

MUST BE ABLE TO:

  1. Safely & competently operate news gathering equipment including cameras, light kits, microphones, and tripods. Sony XD camera experience is effective, but P2 and JVC camera experience is acceptable.
  2. Edit content quickly and accurately in-house or in the field. Edius experience is a definite plus, but Premiere, Final Cut, and Avid expertise are all qualifying skills.
  3. Proficiently use GoPro cameras and incorporate them into daily storytelling.
  4. FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone certification is a very big plus. We’ll invest in getting the hired candidate certified if they aren’t already.
  5. Follow CBS and OSHA safety standards.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  1. Excellent technical and creative skills, including phenomenal lighting of interviews and live shots.
  2. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stakes, tight-deadline environment.
  3. A self-starter and competitive, with excellent people and organizational skills.
  4. Strong work ethic, positive disposition & leadership qualities with the ability to multi-task.
  5. Must be able to lift, handle, and work with at least 50 pounds of equipment.
  6. Work assigned schedules which may include early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  7. Dejero, Live-U and/or TVU live operations experience is required.
  8. ENG & SNG Live Truck experience preferred but not required.
  9. Must have or be eligible to acquire and maintain a valid Maryland driver’s license.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
