The Researcher and Collections Services service unit is offering a 120-day opportunity for a qualified individual at the GS-12 grade level to serve on a full-time temporary promotion to the GS-13 level, OR a qualified individual at the GS-13 level (no promotion) to serve on a full-time detail as the Confidential Assistant for Researcher and Collections Services. The Confidential Assistant will work under the direct supervision and provide administrative support to the Associate Librarian for Researcher and Collections Services, Hannah Sommers.
The Confidential Assistant provides administrative, operational, technical, and program guidance, with little or no supervision, to support the RCS mission and responsibilities within LCSG, in written form, remote communication or teleconferencing, and in person on a wide variety of topics. The Confidential Assistant exercises initiative, judgment, tact, and flexibility and maintains confidentiality in meeting the consultation, liaison, and planning needs of RCS management staff and other LCSG and Library units as involved.
Specifically, the incumbent will:
- Provide day-to-day administrative and program support for the AL-RCS, including managing appointments, coordinating completion of tasks, arranging travel, and supporting communications with Library and external contacts.
- Manage various workflows for the AL-RCS, including reviewing documents and assuming assignments to ensure that the AL-RCS meets deadlines, responds to requests, and is prepared for meetings, briefings and events.
- Proceed at all times in a confidential manner with respect to any management decisions, participating in meetings and overseeing operations for the AL-RCS Office. This includes working collaboratively with RCS leadership, chiefs, managers, and staff across RCS and LCSG.
- Research, gather and compile information on a variety of program data for briefing materials, talking points, annual or quarterly reports, and statistics.
- Collect, synthesize and review data and information for accuracy, to be used in the drafting of written materials in various formats (documents, presentations, online collaboration tools).
- Initiate, establish, and maintain professional relationships with other service unit confidential and special assistants, administrative officers, supervisors and staff throughout LCSG and the Library, in order to share resources, information and effectively serve the service unit.

Eligibility: This opportunity is open to LC permanent and indefinite staff who have permission from their supervisor.
Work Schedule: Flextime schedule, with telework of up to four days per pay period, with desired onsite schedule of Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
