Posting Summary: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Technical Director SPVR for the Theater department at Mason Gross School of the Arts (MGSA).

Key Duties:

  • Executes the scenic elements for all productions produced by the Theater Department at Mason Gross School of the Arts.
  • Delivers scenic elements on time, safely, and within the assigned budget.
  • Develops cost estimates and construction drawings.
  • Supervises carpentry staff in the execution of all scenic elements and is responsible for optimizing scenic department workflow and ensuring material resources are available on a timely basis.
  • Monitors and maintains the Theater Department scene shop, warehouse, performance spaces, vehicles, and other department facilities.
  • Works closely and in coordination with the Mason Gross Facilities Manager.
  • Ensures that all University safety protocols and procedures are observed.
  • Maintains and demonstrates a professional artistic and technical level of working in the shops.
  • Interacts with both professional and student workers both as designers and technicians and must be sensitive to the needs and skill levels of both groups.

Grade: 06

Annual Minimum Salary: $79,387.00

Annual Mid Range Salary: $100,485.00

Annual Maximum Salary: $121,582.00

Standard Hours: 37.50

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Theater or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of technical director in a professional setting.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience in a similar function.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational, management, and communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of theatrical production and professional practice is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ETCP Certification and First Aid Training.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift, push, and/or pull heavy objects using appropriate tools.
  • Comfortable on ladders and at significant heights.
  • Some weekend and evening hours will be required.
