Job Description:
Strategic Relations and Communications, the central communications and marketing unit at Iowa State, is looking for an experienced communications professional who excels in writing for internal and external audiences across various communication and marketing channels. The ideal candidate will demonstrate outstanding writing and communication abilities, coupled with a strong sense of innovation, professionalism, and leadership. This role requires someone who can work independently, manage time, make informed decisions, and contribute to a team environment.
This position offers the opportunity to write about Iowa State's impact and achievements from groundbreaking university research to campus initiatives to inspiring student success stories. You'll be joining a highly collaborative team that supports the university's mission by sharing stories of innovation, teaching and extension and outreach.
Job duties include:
- Generating news and feature stories to uplift university priorities and brand
- Pitching stories and facilitating interview requests with Iowa State experts
- Contributing to social media efforts
- Contributing to or leading team projects in support of strategic initiatives
- Collaborating with communication and marketing professionals across campus
- Coordinating visual elements (photography, video, etc.) to support stories
- Reviewing, proofreading and fact-checking content
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
The selected candidate will be hired under the Communication Specialist II job profile.
Level Guidelines:
Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals. Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems. Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests. May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff. May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity. Provides guidance to students.
