The Phelps Library and STEAM Lab Makerspace seeks an engaged and visionary Director to Educate and Collaborate with cross-sector community members, Cultivate new ideas, partnerships, and opportunities based on community needs, and Grow the thriving STEAM Initiative at this award-winning Library. The successful candidate will lead this pioneering and dynamic Library with a talented, motivated staff of 4PTE, an annual budget of $230,000, and an innovative, fully renovated, and well-equipped 5,000+ sq. ft. facility with strong support from its community. The eight-member Board of Trustees seeks an inspired and gifted Director, who will continue the Library’s stellar programs while developing and implementing new service models. A catalyst for STEAM, Making, and Technical Skills for all ages, the Phelps Library is an open source of inspiration to formal and informal educators regionally and nationally.
Responsibilities: The Director of the Phelps Library reports to an eight-member Board of Trustees of this Association Library and is a member of the OWWL (Ontario Wayne Wyoming Livingston) Library System. The Director plans, organizes, directs, evaluates, and reviews the Library’s resources, services, and programs. Work is accomplished through collaboration with key team members who manage various organizational elements. Overall responsibilities include the management of all library staff, fostering effective and empathetic internal and external communications, providing sound fiscal management while strengthening current funding sources and seeking additional revenue sources, continuing to support and promote a shared vision for library service and programming, and developing cross-sector, collaborative relationships with a variety of local, regional, and statewide educators, businesses, and organizations.
Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of managerial experience or any equivalent combination of experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Highly desired is an educational or nonprofit experience focused on an area of STEM or STEAM programming and progressively responsible experience in planning, development, and administration.

Duties:
- Develops and presents an annual budget and monitors and approves expenditures
- Attend monthly Board and Committee meetings, recommending new services, initiatives, and policies.
- Mentors and supports library personnel; leads recruitment, hiring, supervision, and development of staff
- Provides oversight for collection development and maintenance
- Develops short-term and long-range goals in keeping with the Phelps Library's mission and policies
- Builds on existing successful external partnerships and seeks out and fosters new collaborative partnerships
- Develop, organize, direct, evaluate, and review an expanding menu of classes and events, particularly in the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics, and technical skills
- Develops policies for consideration and approval by the Library Board of Trustees
- Prepares grant proposals, administers grant funds, and submits all necessary paperwork and reports
- Prepares state, local, and other statistical or narrative reports as needed or required.
- Supervises the maintenance of library property and recommends repairs, alterations and new construction
Compensation:
- $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 commensurate with experience
