This position reports to the Chief of Staff.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop strategies to best communicate the Department’s mission, goals, and priorities.
  2. Administer, interpret, and explain policies, rules, regulations, and laws as developed by the Executive Director and Chief of Staff.
  3. Participate in activities to evaluate and/or improve processes and services in our business units of Reemployment Assistance, Workforce Services, Community Development, and Strategic Business Development.
  4. Coordinate activities as assigned by the Chief of Staff to ensure continuing operations, maximize efficiencies, and increase productivity.
  5. Review and analyze legislation, laws, and public policy and recommend changes to administrative services.
  6. Serve as liaison with special task forces or work groups by coordinating responses involving policy research and analysis.
  7. Provide oversight and supervision of the Office of Public Relations.
  8. Supervise and manage employees in the process of conducting research and responding to daily media information requests.
  9. Provide media training for department employees.
  10. Coordinate department communications team of marketing representatives and media associates statewide to deal with media and public requests.
  11. Consult with divisions regarding public affairs needs and plans and assist divisions with media events.
  12. Plan and direct development and communication of informational programs designed to keep the public informed of department programs, services, accomplishments, or mission.
  13. Prepare and distribute fact sheets, news releases, photographs, scripts, or other written materials, motion pictures, or tape records to media representatives and others as needed.
  14. Communicate with persons outside the organization, representing the department to customers, the public, government, and other external sources.
  15. Consult with staff and others in government, business, and private organizations regarding policy and procedures as directed by the Chief of Staff.
  16. Implement corrective actions to solve problems.
  17. Assist the Chief of Staff in completing assigned projects.
  18. Represent Agency management in coordinating tasks/projects with the office of federal, state, and local governments as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of crisis communications and strategic message development.
  • Superior writing, editing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of the rules of grammar and punctuation.

Qualifications:

As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed at the official work site of the Department.
  • Travel may be required.
