SweetwaterNOW is an award-winning hyperlocal news service focused on Sweetwater County, WY, and its residents. We’re looking for energetic, curious, community-oriented reporters to expand our mission to shine a nonpartisan light on the issues and decisions that impact county residents’ lives, pocketbooks, and safety. Are you interested in how local government functions on behalf of its citizens? Do you understand the importance of a well-run education system? Do you recognize the effect that planning and development have on a community? Can you listen in on a city meeting and dig out the key points? Ask good questions? Are you an experienced journalist? And most of all, can you explain those things in writing, clearly and on a deadline?

This is a full-time position with benefits.
Responsibilities
- Attend city government and other meetings, in person and/or virtually, and determine what’s newsworthy in what was said and done by officials and members of the public.
- Contact and interview sources as needed to get the story behind the story of what’s going on in Sweetwater County government and community.
- Tackle assignments from SweetwaterNOW editors as well as generate your own ideas for interesting, compelling stories.
- Stay up to date with the latest local current events in the “beat” by studying papers, attending events, etc.
- Deliver an E-Mail Daily Newsletter consisting of stories posted to SweetwaterNOW that day.
- Photograph local events (Equipment Provided).
Requirements and skills
- Proven working experience as a reporter is preferred; will train the right eager learner.
- Proficiency with software including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and WordPress.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
