Senior Urban Designer

WXY Studio is seeking a full-time Senior Urban Designer to join its dynamic New York City team. This role requires an ability to handle a full range of urban design , land use, zoning, landscape, and master planning proposals. This position will be an integral part of the WXY’s design team and require close collaboration with the entire design team, office principals, consultants, and clients.

Responsibilities

• Project management, including oversight of urban design project development, presentations, project progress, schedules, and budgets, and direction of drawings and visualizations
• Support master planning, senior level urban design and landscape projects with high quality graphic communication, drawings and 3D visualization
• Conduct site analyses, massing and zoning studies, and development of project scenarios and proposals
• Development of organized content workflow throughout production consistent with office procedures and standards
• Report directly to project leads and office Principals and Associate Principals
• Timely completion of all design materials

Required Skills

• Strong urban design and representational skills
• Strong awareness of contemporary and historical trends in urban design and city planning, along with recent developments in technology, place-building, landscape, and development
• Understanding of urban design development dynamics and city processes, including zoning, street design, green infrastructure, and other urban systems
• Software requirements include: Rhino, Enscape, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite
• Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn new digital tools
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Ability to take initiative in response to direction
• A flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working and a commitment to excellence
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently
• Great interpersonal communication and presentation skills

Experience & Qualifications

• Able to work in the USA and begin work immediately
• Fluent in English (excellent written and verbal skills)
• 5-10 years urban design, architecture and/or city planning experience with direct experience in management and support of urban design/planning projects
• Master’s Degree in Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, City Planning (with a focus on physical planning), or Architecture with a focus on urban scale projects, public realm design, and master planning.
