Senior Technical Writer

As a Senior Technical Writer at Apex Fintech Solutions, you're responsible for the development of technical documentation to support Apex's platform, including our APIs and the clients who use them. In addition to your expert skills producing content for developer audiences, this role demands agility to support rapid software-development cycles. Your ingenuity and resourcefulness will be critical as you adapt to varying circumstances, shifting timelines, and collaborate across multiple teams to achieve objectives. You excel in understanding the perspective of your audience, ensuring clarity and depth in your communications. Moreover, you possess a keen curiosity and a drive to continuously learn about the products you document.

Job Description

In this role, your primary responsibility will be to update and create new technical content for the Apex API and our externally facing knowledge base. Operating in two-week sprints, you will partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Technical Content Management, and other key stakeholders across Apex to ensure the accuracy and completeness of our documentation.

As a Senior member of the team, you will lead by example, consistently delivering high-standard content that adheres to our writing guidelines. You will also mentor less experienced team members, identify opportunities for increased efficiency and enhancements to our content offerings, and uphold best practices and professionalism, even under pressure.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain API and knowledge base content that meets industry standards, keeping pace with product development teams and adhering to style guidelines.


  • Collaborate closely with product engineering, product management, integration teams, and other internal stakeholders to write API documentation and programming guides.


  • Represent the Technical Content team in a positive light across the Apex organization, helping to enhance our reputation for excellence.


  • Assume an active role as a leader for the team, supporting Tech Content management in things like sprint planning and work-balancing efforts, always ready to pitch in and lend a hand as needed to get the team across the finish line.


Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher (in English, technical communications, computer science, or a similar field)


  • 7+ years of experience as a technical writer for a developer audience at a fast-paced software company


  • Proven experience writing detailed, user-centered API and programming documentation in a fast-paced software environment


  • Outstanding ability to grasp and communicate interrelationships between topics clearly and meaningfully and to present information in a logical hierarchy and in a consistent manner


  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple focus areas and tasks


  • Enthusiasm for cross-functional collaboration with people at all levels of an organization


  • Courage to advocate for yourself and for our user's needs, backing your opinions with experience and facts


  • A bias for action and a positive attitude with an innate and finely tuned attention to detail


  • Current knowledge of the evolving style of technical documentation and enablement resources for developer audiences


  • Ability to work in US time zones (ideally Central Standard Time)


  • Experience with Markdown or another markup language, GitHub, Jira, and Swagger


  • One or more programming languages (Java, Go, Python, Typescript)


  • A strong writing portfolio to demonstrate these skills


Preferred qualifications

  • An advanced degree in a related discipline


  • Programming experience


  • Experience designing or documenting an enterprise API solution


  • Experience with a documentation portal and/or ticketing environment such as Readme or Zendesk

Salary Range
$78,400-$98,000

The annual base salary range for this position is noted above. Exact compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and office location.
