Adjunct Instructor, Graphic Design (Visual Art & Design)

This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.

1. Portfolio of graphic design samples may be required prior to hiring.
2. Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States.
3. In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester by semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.
4. Official transcripts are required for those who are offered employment within 30 days of hire.
5. In accordance with Board of Regents policy, SLCC’s Human Resources will conduct a criminal background check on instructors if concurrent enrollment (K-12) students are assigned to classes.

Job Summary

Teach graphic design classes for the Department of Visual Art & Design.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Under minimal supervision, teach semester-long graphic design classes.
  2. Undergo college mandatory training.
  3. Take part in departmental-level training.
  4. Follow all SLCC policies and procedures.
  5. Become familiar with, and abide by, all college policies.
  6. Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
  7. Provide appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
  8. Return graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
  9. Maintain student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades.
  10. Conduct evaluations of student performance.
  11. Inform students of progress periodically and assign and submit grades by published deadlines.
  12. Assist in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
  13. Prepare and submit incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior.
  14. Maintain professional and collegial behavior.
  15. Handle/respond to student concerns/complaints and respond to student communications promptly.
  16. Maintain professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
  17. Complete all required employee trainings.
  18. Know and enforce FERPA guidelines.
  19. Provide ADA accommodations as requested.
  20. Other job-related duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in graphic design field.
  • Some post-secondary (college) education experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five years full-time experience in graphic design industry.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  1. Ability to teach post-secondary graphic design students.
  2. Demonstrated abilities in graphic design proficiency.
  3. Good reading and writing skills.
  4. Excellent communication skills.
  5. Dependable and punctual.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people.
  7. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background.
