Circulation and Collection Manager, Dedham Public Library (Dedham)

The Town of Dedham seeks highly qualified candidates for the position of Circulation and Collection Manager to oversee the Library’s physical and digital collection, guide staff in collection development, provide leadership and vision for the development and marketing of the collections and resources. The Circulation and Collection Manager is also responsible for managing the circulation departments at both facilities including supervising circulation staff, coordinating interlibrary loan services, and developing or implementing circulation procedures.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the integrity, relevancy, and ongoing assessment of the content in the Library’s online and physical collections.
  2. Plans, organizes, and manages functioning of Library circulation activities on a daily basis at both facilities.
  3. Supervises staff, participating in the evaluation of employees.
  4. Monitors the annual material budget; may seek grants and sponsorships.
  5. Maintains awareness of advanced techniques, newest procedures, and latest equipment for delivery of library information services and content.
  6. Develops and implements procedures related to collection management and circulation.
  7. Trains all staff on circulation functions, policies, and procedures.
  8. Identifies cataloging and processing errors and refers errors to the appropriate staff for correction.
  9. Oversees and develops Library booklists through the Library catalog and Library Aware.
  10. Assists in updating the Library’s website, provides input for the Library newsletter.
  11. Serves as the primary contact for database vendors, museums, and material vendors, ensuring public access.
  12. Provides monthly and annual circulation and collection utilization and Library usage reports.
  13. Attends professional meetings, conferences, workshops and classes at the discretion of the Director.
  14. Responsible for maintaining a welcoming, inviting, safe, and clean public and staff spaces.
  15. Responds to patron concerns and enforces guidelines and policies.
  16. Performs other similar or related duties as required, or as situation dictates.
  17. Responsibilities include assignments at both Library locations as needed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

MLS degree required
1-3 years of experience in public library collection development
Three years of progressively more responsible professional library experience, with two years in a supervisory capacity
Must receive an acceptable CORI/SORI report

Knowledge, Ability, and Skill:

Experience implementing collection development and collection management procedures across multiple library facilities.
Experience working with and implementing different organizations of knowledge to maximize circulation and community utilization.
Experience in developing and writing procedures.
Knowledge of current trends in libraries including collection management, development, and marketing, technology, and social media.
Demonstrated ability to successfully supervise, mentor, and train personnel.
Experience creating marketing materials.
Grant writing skills are highly desirable.
Proficiency in the use of Sierra Library Service Platform, Microsoft Office, Canva, Google Drive, and willingness to learn new software programs as needed.
Ability to work well with a large staff and diverse patrons and be committed to fostering a positive, collaborative work environment.
Ability to implement new ideas, programs, and practices within the Library to maximize community utilization.
