Position Summary: This position primarily supports the firm's communications efforts related to its inclusion and engagement efforts and is part of the global marketing and communications team while residing within the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion team. In collaboration with the Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer (CDO) and Marketing leadership, this position proactively develops and manages the overall communications strategy and execution, including content creation, media, social media, and internal communications. The Manager/Senior Manager will create and implement communication strategies that reflect the firm's brand and positioning, shape and disseminate high-impact messaging, and achieve effective and proactive media coverage in support of key business goals with a primary focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. This candidate must be a strong writer, possess a client service orientation, be able to develop relationships within the firm as well as with the media, meet tight deadlines, possess strong attention to detail and remain calm under pressure.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Works with the co-president, Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Communications Officer, and CDO - or their designees - to develop and implement a strategic communications plan to increase awareness of the firm's robust DE&I work to enhance business development, as well as recruiting and retention efforts Proposes and implements communications related to projects that support business and financial objectives, as needed Builds relationships with lawyers, other professional departments and Marketing & Business Development team members to drive marketing strategy and position projects in the DE&I space for success Develops and proposes story/content priorities and outreach strategies designed to build thought leadership for DE&I including media placements, bylined articles, newsletters, alerts, events, multimedia, other targeted effort Creates and repurposes content for external communications on various platforms Plans, researches, monitors, writes, and executes awards submissions and nominations, internal and external thought leadership events and social media contributions Writes narratives to be included on surveys, client requests, and reports Writes press releases, internal communications, and other media collateral as needed Identifies opportunities on a variety of external PR channels and fully utilize these channels to achieve goals Consistently seeks out new opportunities to place attorneys/stories in client-facing media Provides strategic and creative support for internal and external communications programs, writes/designs collateral as needed for handouts, the firm's Intranet, presentations, white papers, etc. Provides media relations support, including pitching and monitoring interviews and prepping attorneys with talking points Provides social media support including drafting targeted posts and assisting with attorney training As part of the global communications teams works on other firmwide projects or initiatives as needed Collaborates with marketing and other business professionals throughout the firm across functions and teams Other responsibilities as needed Skills & Competencies:
Ability to synthesize complex information into a compelling narrative for media, client or firm use Excellent prioritization and time management skills Candidates must have outstanding communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to communicate effectively with attorneys and professionals at all levels Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced work environment Strong client-first work ethic Must be attentive to detail, work well under pressure, and have the ability to manage simultaneous and tight deadlines Preferred candidates will have excellent writing/copyediting skills, including specialized experience in business and/or legal writing Advanced knowledge and familiarity with The AP Style Guide, as well as the rules of English grammar and style are required Qualifications & Prior Experience:
Bachelor's Degree required Minimum five to ten years in media and communications Experience at a law firm, media outlet, or other professional services firm preferred Exceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quickly
